Life is all about transitions. Things come and go, and nothing lasts forever. Sometimes we need to shift our focus to new things.

This podcast is no different, and so it’s time to say goodbye for now. This show has been a journey filled with a lot of lessons, wonderful reflections, and capturing amazing moments in time.

As my schedule has become busier and my business has begun to take off, I’ve decided to shift my focus - for a little while. I’ll be taking a break from the podcast and see how it goes. Perhaps it’ll come back in a few months, maybe it’ll be an entirely new show, or maybe this phase of life is over.

No matter what I want you to know that I appreciate your support as a listener, and I encourage you to stay in touch with me. Whether it’s through social media, a meeting in person, or an e-mail every now and then to say hi I’d love to hear from you.

On my final episode (for now) I reflect on what I’ve been learning lately. Not just in business, but also in life and personal relationships.

I’ve grown a lot over the last few months and spent the time to reflect on what things have been holding me back for years. I have a feeling you will relate, and hopefully improve yourself as well.

How many times do you feel like your brain is fried? Maybe your body is exhausted? In either case you feel like progress is just a struggle, and that’s the problem of burnout.

Burnout is a serious symptom we all deal with in life, and a lot of that stems from just doing too much and going too far.

The mind and body both need breaks. If you want to build muscle, you can’t if you keep destroying it with high intensity workouts. It needs time to rebuild.

If you keep working, researching, and trying to grow your business your brain will begin to fizzle and you’ll never get the chance to really absorb what you’ve been learning.

As a result, take the time to relax. Take breaks, mentally and physically, so you can go back into the game and really get everything in your life moving where you want it to go.

On this episode of The James Swanwick Show I talk to two fitness entrepreneurs, who are also identical twins, Eric and Chris Martinez. These two guys lost their father as teenagers, and it turned their life upside down. They were getting into trouble and acting out, and knew their life was going down the wrong road.

As a result they ended up moving to Los Angeles and starting over. They built an incredibly successful business and got incredibly fit at the same time.

They’ve joined us to give some amazing tips on how you can progress your mind, body, and business all at the same time without feeling like you have to sacrifice one for the other.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to learn how you can stay on top of the game mentally and physically.

Key Points

  • The Martinez Brothers lost their father in a car accident as teenagers.
  • Deal with your problems and grieve, don’t try to power through it.
  • The trend is to be an entrepreneur, but don’t know what it is.
  • There is no big pay day, it’s a lifestyle.
  • You need make time to let your mind relax.
  • Don’t waste your time on Instagram, it doesn’t show the bad side.
  • Take the time to reward yourself and enjoy the journey.
  • Look at your long term lifestyle to develop a diet.
  • High intensity training should be limited to a couple days of week, not every day.
  • Walking a lot can be enough for the body.
  • Listen to what your body is telling you.
  • It’s possible to scale business, mindset, and physical health at the same time.
  • There is no quick easy fix.
  • Work on the six pack in the brain and the body.
  • Know your breaking points.

How many times do you find yourself using pick-up lines and feeling anxious about it? Do you feel like you’re exhausted from wearing a mask? Well chances are it’s time for you to move your game up, and be yourself.

One thing everyone wants in a partner is someone who is confident. That doesn’t mean you need to voice your opinion every chance you can, that just means you need to be comfortable being yourself. Own your opinions, but don’t push them.

If you feel like the conversation isn’t going anywhere, and you feel like you need to prove yourself or start talking about your dating “resume” as to why you are such a good guy, pause for a moment. Start talking about THEM.

If you get them talking about themselves, and really clarifying who they are, and what they want it will be so much more beneficial for everyone. They’ll feel heard, and you’ll learn if this relationship is right for you.

Most importantly, listen to the words behind the words. Don’t be afraid to dig in to who they are and what makes them tick.

On this episode of the James Swanwick Show, we are joined by Richard Fletcher. Richard lives in England, and is a relationship coach for men. He’s not about giving pick-up lines or teaching you how to put on a mask to land the girl of your dreams. Instead he helps you find the right person for you, and how you can find the perfect relationship that allows you to be you.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show if you are looking to stop playing the field, and start searching for the one.

Key Points

  • This episode is about how to get to a state of calm and be yourself on a date.
  • We all have multiple personalities.
  • It’s exhausting to try to be someone you’re normally not.
  • You don’t need to be that amazing.
  • Understand who your real self is.
  • Think about what integrity you are looking for in someone.
  • You do have to get your heart broken to discover what you want and don’t want.
  • Being a leader means standing for what you want, not leading a group.
  • There’s no need to go over your dating “resume”.
  • Be genuinely interested in the other person on a date.
  • Pay attention to the words behind the words.
  • We all want to feel understood in a relationship.

Is what you are eating making you sick?

Can you eat whatever you want and be fine?

There’s no doubt about it that food and nutrition is a very complicated subject. It seems like every week there’s a new diet or study showing that some new food is a super villain.

If you go online you read so many opinions, and facts that it can be very overwhelming.

It’s hard to know if gluten is good for you or bad. Are juices and smoothies really as bad as soda, or are they a cure all to those with diseases?

All of these answers are given by our special guest today, Alessandra Trovato.

Show notes: JamesSwanwick.com/328

Alessandra was diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease, which is a rare autoimmune disorder caused by the protein gluten - which is found in many pastas and breads.

She’s now a nutritionist, and has become an expert on what food is truly healthy and what food is not. Even she admits the answers can be much more complicated than simple or yes or no, but luckily she answers a lot of questions about the myths of healthy foods.

  • Green juices are better, but avoid ones that contain Apple.

We all take life for granted. We push things off, and expect that we will have the time to do things later. But it’s possible that while you think you are healthy, and in reality you aren’t. One day you may think you are fine and the next find out you have a disease like cancer.

That’s exactly what happened to James’ lifelong friend, Faith Brewer.

One day Faith had an unexpected seizure that came out of nowhere. She was rushed to the hospital, and after runnings tests discovered that she had two brain tumors.

Unfortunately there is no cure for brain cancer.

Since her diagnosis Faith has found more appreciation for the world around her, and has discovered the importance of time. It’s no longer about putting things off, but doing things while she still can.

Faith has also decided to start speaking and giving awareness to this disease, which has been overshadowed by higher profiled cancers so there isn’t much money going to researching a cure.

  • Faith has begun to value time and everything around her much more.
  • It’s important to be aware of such diseases.

Are you interested in starting your own business? Many people are, and they often struggle trying to do it all themselves with no experience. This often times leads to people feeling overwhelmed and deflated, which causes them to put off taking action.

The truth is you don’t have to start from scratch. No matter where you live you can find people who are more knowledgeable than you, and more experienced than you. You just need to to seek them out.

One thing you can do is try to find a meetup in your area of other people who are in the same type of business you are. Chances are, no matter where you are, there is something going on close by. And if there isn’t, then take action. Start your own meetup and bring other people closer together.

There is nothing that will inspire you to talk action more than being surrounded by people who are also taking action. Learn from their mistakes, bounce ideas off of them, and don’t be afraid to be the dumbest person in the room. That’s how you know you’re in the right place and learning.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show James is joined again by his friend, and long time listener, James Harris. Harris asks questions about his new business he wants to start, and gets some solid advice on options he can take.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show today to learn more about how to start a successful business from the ground up.

Key Points

  • Swanwick is currently in Australia for business.
  • Harrison trying to be an entrepreneur by himself.
  • Little changes turn into large results later on.

  • Try to make your products available world wide instead of regional.
  • Find marketplaces where people are already going, don’t just create your own marketplace.
  • Be surrounded by people more experienced than you.
  • Have a wide array of friends.
  • Find meetups for what you are interested in pursuing.
  • If you can’t find meetups, create one.
  • Procrastination is a killer of dreams.

Starting a business is no easy game. Are first it’s just you, or maybe a really small team. As your figures grow so does your team.

There comes a point in every business when it becomes more about growing your team and finding the right business than it is about actually running a business.

One of the things you need to keep in mind when growing your team is to always bring on someone who is better than you. You don’t want to find someone you need to train, you want them to be ready to hit the ground running and grow your business in ways you didn’t expect.

If you’re wondering when is the right time to bring on a new team member, as yourself this:

Is you business still growing or has it plateaued?

When your company is still growing, that means you are on the right track. If the answer is that it’s plateaued, that’s a sign you need to bring someone else onto the team.

On this episode of the James Swanwick Show, James interviews Ryan Moran. Ryan just sold his business for 8 figures, and is on track to have a 9 figure business. Ryan has been training and coaching entrepreneurs for years, in fact James credits Ryan as being the reason he found his current success.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show and learn how you too can start building an 8 figure business from the ground up.

Key Points

  • Identify where buyers and potential buyers are hanging out.
  • Sell physical products people want and consume.
  • Having a second product will increase the sales of the first product increase.
  • When you start go all in one one thing.
  • Don’t diversify too quickly.
  • If you bring on a new team member, make sure they are better than you at something.
  • When you are established it because more about who you know.
  • When you hit a plateau you are missing a person in your life.
  • Know what your singular skill is.

While on the road of life we all know it’s important to grab onto opportunities. One thing we overlook is the importance of giving opportunities, and helping others.

When we have the chance we should take a moment to help those that are up and coming, and where we were only a short time ago.

That’s exactly what James did while on his travels to New York. A young man by the name of Gabriel Evan Torres came up to James while he was talking at a Tai Lopez event, and said he wanted to start his own podcast. He asked James to be a guest, and James gladly said yes.

On this episode we learn more about James from an interview standpoint. Gabriel asks James about the design of the Swannies, his thoughts on relationships, and the important things in life.

Our society puts pressures on us all the time. We are told that if we don’t have a wife and children by a certain age we aren’t normal. We are told if we suffer from depression we aren’t normal.

The truth is that the most influential people in history weren’t “normal”. In fact they went against the norm, and were outcasts of society. Today we celebrate theirs lives, accomplishments, and attributes to the world.

People like Galileo, Van Gogh, Isaac Newton. They all had a certain personality type that wasn’t what society wanted, but what the world needed.

Alcohol is a strong substance that can lead to a fun night with friends and help you relax, but a lot of people don’t know when to stop. There are a lot of people out there who wouldn’t identify themselves as an alcoholic because they don’t have a need to drink, but once they start they just can’t stop.

Moderation is a fine idea, yet so many people can’t drink in moderation. There are many of us out there that have a sip of wine and it turns into two bottles. A glass of beer can quickly turn into pitchers, and for people like that moderation isn’t an option.

There’s a saying that alcohol can lead to a good time, but being sober can lead to a great time.

You don’t need an excuse to have fun with your friends, and in the end memories can only happen if you remember what happened.

I also feel I have to mention all of the negative effects of alcohol. Not only does it cause problems to your organs, like liver problems and heart disease, but it also can cause weight problems.

Doctors say four glasses of beer is equal to eating a Big Mac. When you’re at a bar, you typically eat fried food. So in the end you’re basically eating garbage and washing it down with even more.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show we are joined by fellow Australian Peter FitzSimons, who shares his experience in quitting drinking. His life massively transformed once he put down the bottle. His relationship with his family improved, his productivity in work went way up, and he lost nearly 100 lbs!

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show today to hear about how quitting Alcohol can improve every aspect of life.

Key Points

  • Most people celebrate by drinking.
  • People who drink too much forget what it’s like to wake up clear headed.
  • One bottle of wine, or four beers, is equal to a big mac.
  • When you give up drinking, the hardest part is the first few weeks.
  • You can live a happier and healthier life if you give up on drinking.
  • Moderation doesn’t work for some people.
  • Peter lost 94 pounds just by giving up alcohol.
  • Alcohol affects your emotional reasoning.
  • It doesn’t take long for your body to get back to normal.

As cliche as it sounds, life really is short. Anything you want to do, you have to do now. If you wait to do something you’ll miss your chance, and end up regretting it.

If you want to start a business, start a business. If you want to move somewhere, move there. Don’t let anything hold you back, especially not fear. Nothing ever goes perfectly smooth in the beginning, but you need to keep trying.

On this episode of the James Swanwick Show, James records on his birthday from New York City. We receive an update on what’s been moving along, and James reflects on how much life has changed over the last ten year.

There are only two guarantees in life: life and death. Everything in the middle is uncertain, yet we ignore this thing we all have to experience. Death is something we turn a blind eye to and people generally shy away from the topic.

Ultimately we should embrace it. We should be ready for it. Not just our own death, but the death of loved ones around us. Watching those we love pass on isn’t a pleasant experience, and it’s often a slow process we should be a part of.

On this episode of Thai Neave discusses the recent loss of his mother, who passed away from breast cancer recently. He tells his story of how he dropped everything in his life and shifted gears in order to help his mother during her final time of need.

  • People with cancer typically get lethargic and lose weight.
  • When people see someone with a shaved head, they define them as a cancer patient.
  • Cancer is ugly, but people’s spirits are where true beauty lies.
  • Taking care of someone is not putting your life on hold.
  • To give feels so good.
  • At the end of the day, how we feel is all that matters.
  • One way or another you’re going to have a story to tell.
  • Hope can be a prison, as you’re not facing the future.
  • We can always give more.
  • Being selfless is the greatest gift we can give ourselves.
  • You can do sets and reps with your intuition.
  • The entire world will always continue to move on.
  • It’s important to embrace your feelings when dealing with death.

When you’re traveling, it’s easy to be taken advantage of and ripped off. People spot a tourist and know ways to get an extra buck out of them. For example, James was in Las Vegas and a local taxi could tell he wasn’t from around there and took him the “long way”. A $15 taxi ride quickly turned into $35, and James was unaware until the next day.

The good news is that traveling can also be amazing! James has been continuing his adventure as he travels and grows his company: Swannies. He went from a networking event in Tampa to a mattress convention in Las Vegas.

It’s amazing how learning about something new can go from interesting to tedious in a couple of days, but the good news is you may soon be able to get a new mattress from Swannies that will help you sleep better each night!

James continued his journey to Austin, where we find him in this episode. He’s been sharing great times with his friends, and planning where his journey will take him next.

There’s an old expression: “It takes money to make money.” It’s absolutely true.

Over the last few weeks James has been traveling to various conventions and networking events in order to make progress in his Swannies business. James has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars to attend these events - and it’s paid off.

In this time James has gotten amazing advice from some of the biggest people in the industry. He’s had feedback the most successful marketers and biggest resale companies in the world. It wouldn’t have happened if James hadn’t done two things.

1) Invest in himself

Most people would look at spending thousands of dollars just to hear people talk and meet a few strangers as a waste. If James hadn’t spent the money on airlines, hotels, and tickets to events he wouldn’t have had face to face conversations with people from companies like Bed Bath & Beyond and CVS.

Making one sale with these companies would easily pay for all of his expenses, and grow the company massively. It’s important to look at the long term investment. So many people shy away from the short term investment and end up losing so much money in the long run.

2) Being humble

We all have a moment to shine. We will all get out chance to brag, but that should never stand in the way of getting advice. James saw an opportunity to not look like a big shot in exchange for feedback from the event attendees. He was invited to tell marketers at one of the world’s largest events all about the problems in his company. Most people would be afraid to let their guard down, and James was nervous, but felt the need to do it.

It paid off. James was able to spend one minute telling about his pitfalls and opening up to a large audience. From this he received 28 suggestions on how to make his company better. He also no longer had to network one by one, hunting people down and explaining himself and his business a thousand times. People were now hunting down James, desperately looking to give him advice.

    • You just show up, order, eat, and leave.
  • Sightseeing can be a great way to bond with other business people.

It’s important to continue learning - constantly. You can’t stop, or else you will be left behind. There will always be someone who knows more than you, new trends and technology coming into play, and you can quickly be left behind.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steve Jobs, and the Dalai Llama are all people from different walks of life who know/knew the importance of continual growth. The world will leave you behind, and it can’t be stressed enough that you need to keep educating yourself.

Recently James attended a seminar where he was a guest speaker. He was talked up by the people running the event, told what a success and great business man he is, and left the entire audience with the impression that he is some kind of business super hero. At one point in the seminar, the crowd was asked to share any problems they may be facing in their business.

Most people in James’ position would play a big shot and keep their mouth shut. James knows the importance of being humble and taking advantage of an opportunity when he has the chance, so he raised his hand to share what was going on in his business. As a result he was able to learn more from the combined minds of the entire room than he possibly could have on his own. This also lead James to new connections and a higher appreciation from his audience.

People want to see your vulnerable side, and they want to be a part of your solutions. You can’t let the ego get in the way, and you have to remember that you are never too big or successful to keep learning.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James shares his experiences from traveling around the world and attending various events. He gives you an inside glimpse of what it’s like to be both a mentor and a student at the same time.

Key Points

  • Even as a mentor and teacher it’s important to keep learning and being a student.
  • Don’t be afraid to express vulnerability.
  • It’s ok to feel like the dumbest person in the room, it means you’re growing.
  • The most successful people are those that are always learning.
  • At seminars there are always people who know more than you and are willing to share with you.
  • Change occurs in the presence of other people.
  • It can be comforting to change your life’s pace by being in a new place.
  • Double down on what makes you happy.

So many times people make their dreams come true and then they feel lost. It’s something we see a lot with astronauts, who spend their whole life training and working toward their goals of making it to space. When they make it they are left asking themselves, “Now what?” Believe it or not, this is a problem that many entrepreneurs have to deal with. We can spend all over our energy trying to get that mansion, the sports car, and the million dollars in the bank. Then what?

The key to ongoing emotional success in your business is to make sure business has purpose and gives back to the world. That way your life and business always has purpose, and a reason to keep building. There are a few ways you can do this. The first is to give away product to a charity that aligns with your brand. A perfect example of this is the company Toms, which is known for giving away a shoe every time a shoe is purchased.

If you can’t afford to give away an entire product, you can raise your price a little bit and give that extra money you make away to a charity or organization with benefits that align with your products. Lastly, if you want to give back you can hire on people who wouldn’t normally be able to find work easily. For example, there are local grocery stores here in Los Angeles that hires the homeless to help stock and work as cashiers.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show we are joined by the incredibly successful entrepreneur, Cole Hatter. Cole shares his amazing stories about how he cheated death twice within two months and decided to dedicate his life to doing great things with the money he makes.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to hear how you can use your business to make a big impact on the world.

Key Points

  • Everyone’s goal is to be comfortable as quickly as possible.
  • A lot of entrepreneurs feel misplaced after a certain point.
  • It’s important to build a business that has a purpose and significance.
  • You’re only a failure if you don’t get a life lesson.
  • The most successful people are the most receptive.
  • If you can’t afford a personal mentor, mentor from people through their literature.
  • Age has nothing to do with knowledge.
  • Always be humble in your learning.
  • More and more companies build a business model that helps people.
  • You can increase your profits in order to be able to give away a product.
  • You can give away money for each sale you make.
  • Employing people who need a chances can create purpose.
  • Find a benefit that is on brand.
  • Design dream life, then build a business that supports that.
  • Create truths and morals to make a filter to what you want.

Are there people in this world you’re dying to meet? People you really admire, and want to be a part of their team? The key to making these connections isn’t telling them how great they are, or what you want from them. Chances are they are surrounded by people who do that every day. You really need to stand out from the crowd, and it’s easier than you think.

To get the attention of people you respect, you need to show them how you can add value to them. That doesn’t mean brag about the things you done, it means show them what you can do to help them. Notice I said show, not tell. You’d be amazed at how much attention you can get by taking a little extra time out of your day and use your skills to provide a sample of what you can do for them.

It may seem like a waste of time to do something for free, and there’s always a chance nothing will come of it. If you think sacrificing a little bit of your time to prove your value is a waste, that mentality if only going to keep you from reaching the top.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show we are joined by a long time listener, Atticus Radley and his friend Ben Albert. Atticus reached out to provide James help with his social media and gave examples of what they can do. It’s now bloomed into a personal and professional relationship that wouldn’t have existed without Atticus proving his value.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to hear more about how you can successfully reach out to the people you want in your life.

Key Points

  • When you write an e-mail try to provide as much value as you can while asking for as little as you can.
  • Take the time to research the people you are reaching out to.
  • Embrace criticism and complaints, that’s where you learn the most.
  • Stop sending in job applications and start sending in value.
  • You want to give your customers free content and value.
  • People can value things more when there’s a fear of missing out.
  • People prefer benefits over features.
  • You have to speak the language of your audience.
  • You HAVE to be genuine and honest with your customers.
  • People can smell BS.

Do you ever feel drained because you don’t know what to do? Are there too many decisions to make? It’s not always a lot of decisions about one thing, sometimes it can a bunch of things that only have a couple of choices. Decisions use up glucose in the brain, and too many can leave you exhausted. That’s why people like Mark Zuckerberg wear the same color shirt every day, to minimize this problem.

On this episode James interviews Brad De Comarmond about the phenomenon known as decision fatigue, what it’s really like living in LA, and the importance of interacting with others without having expectations of anything in return.

  • No matter what decisions we make we will mess up somewhere.
  • It’s possible to have too many options, it can drain you.
  • Some people are more content with a simpler, straightforward, life.
  • Whenever you meet someone enjoy the moment, and whatever connection you have.
  • Don’t be selfish when you interact with people.
  • We are conditioned to believe more successful people have more educated, but that’s not always true.

Do you stay up late at night to get more work done, then get up early to get your day started? Are you trying to get the most out of your life by sleeping less and taking full advantage of the day? In reality, you’re doing a lot more harm than good by not getting a good night’s rest.

Studies have shown that being sleep deprived has the same effects on a person as drinking alcohol. You wouldn’t be drunk at work, would you? Then why would you go to work sleep deprived? Chances are you’re saying you can work just fine without sleep. Have you ever noticed that’s the same thing someone says when they’ve had too many drinks? They don’t notice how bad the impact is, and neither do you.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, the incredibly knowledgeable Doc Parsley gives his insights on the show. You may be surprised to find that even if  you think you’re getting enough sleep, you may not be. Those sleeping pills may be making it worse by knocking you out, and not putting you into a proper REM cycle.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to hear more about how you can start sleeping better, be more productive, and start taking control of your life again.

Key Points

  • Sleep deprivation started around the time of the industrial revolution.
  • You need sleep to have a good life.
  • When you work it it makes your body weaker, it’s the rest periods when it becomes stronger.
    • The mind works the same way, and needs the rest to become stronger.
  • You may practice  speech or piece of knowledge during the day, but get better at it when you sleep.
  • When you sacrifice sleep you may increase the quantity of hours in your life, but you lose a LOT of quality.
  • Sleep deprivation is the equivalent of trying to cure your anxiety from being an entrepreneur by being drunk all day.
  • Studies have shown sleep deprivation is the equivalent of having too much to drink.
  • Like someone who is drunk will say they aren’t, someone who is sleep deprived will argue it as well.
  • We evolved to use the sun as a guide to wake up and sleep.
  • Stress hormones are what keep us awake.
  • You need to start getting ready for bed hours before going to sleep.
  • In the morning get as much sunlight as you can to activate your circadian rhythm.
  • At night limit as much blue light exposure as you can to simulate night.
  • People often use way too much Melatonin to try and sleep.
  • Taking Melatonin can reduce the receptors in your brain, making natural production less effective.
  • When you are under the influence of sleeping drugs you aren’t sleeping, you’re just unconscious.

Do you wonder why people spend hundred, thousands, or even tens of thousands of dollars on information they can get for free or from a book? Sometimes it seems crazy to think someone would spend that much when they don’t really have to. The reason is because you will get better results if you invest in yourself.

Years ago I would read every book and website I could find about being an entrepreneur and starting my own business. Nothing happened. Not until one day I went to a talk Tai Lopez was giving and decided to invest $25,000 into his program. That wasn’t in investment just in Tai’s program, but also into myself. How much harder are you going to work if you have a $20 book on the line versus $25,000 in hard cash?

One this episode of the James Swanwick show, I interview long time friend Eli Wilde about his work with the famous Tony Robbin and the importance of investing in yourself. Sometimes it’s not about the money, but about the push you need to finally get the success you want and deserve.

Key Points

  • Information is becoming free, but experiences are not.
  • If you don’t have the resources, be resourceful.
  • The investment is the transformation you need.
  • How good does it feel to bet on yourself?
  • If you don’t have skin in the game, you won’t really pay attention.
  • We have more money coming in, or access to more money, than we realize.
  • Doing something on your own can take a decade more than if you have a coach.
  • Our minds always want to focus on what’s bad, so think about what’s great.
  • As students it’s our responsibility to be even better than our teachers.

Have you made goals you that just sit in the back of your mind? Ever say you wanted to lose weight, move to a new city, or finally start that business? Your dreams will never come true if they just sit on a to do list. You need to move them from a list and put them on your calendar so you have a deadline to finally take action.

You need to talk less and talk more action. It’s easy for any of us to learn something new, think we have a solid plan for making something happen, then sit around and do nothing. What you need to do is apply the knowledge you have and get the ball rolling on your goals. Nothing great has ever come from someone sitting on the couch thinking about what they want to do in life.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to hear more insight on how you can finally start your endeavors.

Key Points

  • Most people talk a good game but never take action.
  • It’s always impressive when someone says they will do something and six months later have achieved their goals.
  • Until James put his goal on moving on his calendar, it wasn’t happening.
  • You need to embrace the unknown, not be afraid of it.
  • People feel good in the moment when the learn something new, but rarely incorporate the knowledge into their life.
  • Even if you have a plan and blue print, things won’t happen if you won’t do it.
  • Knowledge is not power, applied knowledge is power.
  • Get it off your to do list and onto your calendar.
  • If you want to do something, get the ball rolling NOW!

Having a love life isn’t easy, and we often times treat personal lives different than any other aspect of our lives.

We have lost touch with the world we used to live in. As a result people are unhealthier than ever. We are fatter, seeing a rise in diabetes, and chronic illnesses have gone through the roof. It’s time to stop doing what we’ve done for the last 50 to 100 years that has gotten us to this point.

We need to look back on how our ancestors used to live, and what they were doing right. Aside from getting infections our ancestors would actually live long healthy lives, with a much better quality of life. Not that we have antibiotics, everyone should be living much longer and better lives.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James interviews Dr. Noah De Koyer - host of Beyond Your Wildest Dreams Podcast. They discuss what people are doing wrong with their food choices and social choices that is causing our society to be unhappier and unhealthier than ever.

Key Points

  • What we’re doing today simply isn’t working.
  • Chronic diseases cases are constantly increasing.
  • We’re not honoring how we were designed as humans.
  • We don’t honor our sleep cycles.
  • We don’t move and sit all day.
  • Infectious diseases are what took out our caveman ancestors when they were young.
    • Infectious disease have been almost eradicated.
  • Cavemen had a better quality of life, physically.
  • We don’t have the same social interactions cave men did, sitting around telling stories.
  • The sun would come up, and we would go out to work. When the night came we went home and started a fire.
  • Fire doesn’t affect your circadian rhythm like artificial blue lights do.
  • Your body sleeps better in a cooler temperature.
  • There are several nutrients you can’t get from plants alone.
  • The first thing a lion eats in the wild is the liver.
  • Cavemen were fat adapted.
  • Cavemen had starvation periods.
  • There’s nothing wrong with a high plant based diet that have nutrients, but there needs to be meat.
  • Plants are designed to keep you from eating them and have ways to decrease your nutrient intake from them.
  • We’ve forgot the importance of really cooking our food.
  • There is no one size fits all. Some people can survive on vegetarian and vegan diets.
  • Every hour that you sit you should do 100 jumping jacks or some sort of exercising or functional movements.
  • We’ve lost the nature intelligence due to living in cities.
  • We used to build bonds and relationships through an exchange of goods.
  • We no longer have to barter and have lost our social interactions.
  • Things like crossfit and Yoga have gotten so popular because of the social aspects we need deep down inside.
  • You get energy from being around people and having social interactions.
  • We are more connected today, but it’s not a deep connection.
  • It’s believed Cataracts is a defensive mechanism caused by blue light.
  • Cows were designed to eat certain things, just like us. A grass fed cow has much healthier meat.
  • Feeding cows corn makes them fat, but they become sick and unhealthy.
  • Raising cows contributes significantly to global warming.
    • Feeding cows grass, they release much less methane.
  • People are often tricked into thinking things are healthier than they really are.
  • Pasture raised eggs are much healthier than cage free.
    • NOT pasteurized eggs.
  • A good quality yoke is orange, not a pale yellow.

Have you ever seen someone in jeans an a tshirt and written them off just because they look like a normal person? You may be doing yourself a disservice, because you never know who can help you in life. It may be the person you least expect than can help you the most.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James discusses a Hollywood party he attended hosted THE Arnold Schwarzenegger. James learned valuable lessons from the most successful in Los Angeles, and learned the important lesson not to judge a book by it’s cover.

James was in attendance with Tai Lopez, and together learned the importance of taking a shot when you have the chance thanks to Sylvester Stallone. Had James and Tai hesitated even a second, they would have missed out on the story of a lifetime with one of the most famous action stars in film history.

Download this episode of the James Swanwick show to hear the details and lessons that could have only been learned from his experience.

Key Points

  • It’s all about access.
  • No one is smarter than you, they are just around successful people.
  • Just by talking with people in a higher place than you will teach so much.
  • You never know who can give you the information you need to be successful.
  • You need to take you shot the moment you get the chance.
  • You need to be in relationships of support.
  • Find or create your own mastermind group.

Have you done a lot with your life but still feel in a rut? Do you feel unsatisfied with your accomplishments? That’s because you’re not finding your definition of success. You’re trying to fulfill society's definition of success.

We are all individuals, with individual needs. There’s no one right answer and you shouldn’t think there is. We live in a consumer based society and as a result we are constantly being told we need products to make us happy. Getting a CEO position to buy that dream house or a sports car won’t make you happy if that’s not YOUR definition of happiness and success.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James interviews Thai Neave to explore how someone can find what makes them happy and where they can find their definition of success. You won’t want to miss this episode and start getting you on track to what will fill your life with joy, not someone else’s.

Key Points

  • We keep putting band aids over holes inside of us to try and keep up appearances on what we think the world wants of us.
    • Can’t keep covering the hole. We need to shine light on it and address it.
  • Most problems in the world stem from people not loving themselves fully.
  • We are always comparing ourselves to others, and therefore never feel we are enough.
  • Advertising is everywhere we go, feeding into our insecurities.
  • Happiness only comes from within ourselves.
  • Our egos are designed to keep us alive and not meant to keep us happy.
  • The ego can make us do good things as well as bad.
  • You need to find YOUR sense of happiness and success, not society’s.
  • Don’t try to fill someone else’s definition of success.
  • You need daily rituals and habits to keep you sane and on track.

Do you put yourself out there to help others without expecting anything in return? Are you taking on project because of the perks and not because you are passionate about them? If you answered yes to either of those, you’re probably doing more harm than good when it comes to networking.

If you really want to network with people, and more importantly make long-term friends, you need to be willing to put other people first. You should help people for the sake of helping them, and only take on projects you really care about. If you do things for any other reason, you’re just burning bridges.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James broadcasts live from Darren Darnborough’s birthday party at the Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood. James interviews Darren on how he has made such an impact on lives all over the world, and has become the go to man for so many people. Download this episode to see what it really takes to be successful in this world.

Key Points

  • Reach out, be genuine to people, and be there for them.
    • Actually be nice.
  • Remember people’s names and use them.
  • Get involved with things because you believe in it, not because of the perks.
  • Don’t challenge people, charm them and help them.
  • You never forget the people who first give you a chance.
  • Your child’s name can create an impact on their future based on society’s impression of it.
  • Live a life of service for others - and enjoy it.

Do you find your body feeling weaker as you get older? Are sports harder to play than they used to be? The truth is, it’s not your age. The more you do something, the better you should get. You’re losing your balance skills, and it’s affecting your everyday life.

In our modern society, we have taken out the natural world’s daily balancing act. We use concrete to flatten surfaces, we turn up toes in shoes, and we’re losing our peripheral vision to screens. As a result your daily activities are suffering, and even the most fine tuned athletes are losing this important skill.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show James interviews Jim Klopman, author of the book Balance is Power. He gives incredible tips to help improve their health and life through simple tips and techniques you can use every day.

Key Points

  • Humans are the only true biped in this world.
  • Society builds a flat world, which works against your balance.
  • People are losing peripheral vision, which affects your balance.
  • Half of all people over 45 that visit the emergency room is due to a fall.
  • Athletes can have a come back at an older age if they work on their balance.
  • Walking in nature instead of walking in the city will be much more helpful physically and mentally.
  • People need to work stabilizing muscles, not just big muscles.
  • When exercising, one is better than two.
    • Avoid machines.
    • Use crossing motions, not parallel exercises.
  • In sports you never stand on both feet.
  • Balance doesn’t occur on your heels, stay on your toes.
  • Having a plant on your desk improves productivity by 15%.
  • Stand on one foot when you can, not two.
  • Use kettle weights when exercising.
  • Shoes inhibit our balance.
    • Workout barefoot.
    • Jim suggests wearing Tom’s or Xero shoes.
    • Find the lowest heels you can.
    • No turned up toes.

Today’s episode is a conversation between myself, Mark Dhamma, and my brother Tristan. We cover a wide range of things, from the importance of relaxing and taking time off, especially for entrepreneurs to whom it does not usually come naturally, the value of changing your environment and habits to change your thought pattern, and why you need to experiment in everything you do to understand what works for you, and double down on that.

We also get into personality tests, and why it’s important to learn about your strengths and weaknesses, and then focus on your strengths. Too many people don’t know, or they focus on their weaknesses, and this will not get you ahead, or give you the opportunity to be successful. Instead, focus on becoming the best at your strengths, and then surround yourself with people who will fill in the gaps left by your weaknesses.

Key Points

  • A lot of entrepreneurs are not good at relaxing, and taking time off
  • You need to push yourself, and you need to recover. Both are important
  • There’s value in changing your thought patterns, by changing your activities and locations
  • Experiment with what you do, your habits, your routines, and keep track of what works
  • Even with success, the human tendency is to focus on negativity
  • The ability to feel deeply and care for things can actually make it difficult to fit in
  • Learn your strengths and weaknesses, then focus on using your strengths

Writing a book is a long-term goal for many people around the world. But it could be a lot closer to reality than you think! Today, I’m speaking with Casey Cease, founder of Lucid Publishing, about the process of outlining, drafting, writing, publishing, and promoting your book, so you can finally cross that off your bucket list!

But, like almost everything in life, just getting started is the most difficult part. Humans have innate friction to getting started, and probably a lot of that comes from the realization that when you actually get started, you will realize where you really stand. Before you start, you can fool yourself into thinking about your unlimited potential. But when you start actually working on something, it all the sudden becomes so much more real.

But this friction can be overcome, and as you start to work, the project will start to take shape, and that is one of the most incredible things to see happen! But then, you have to finish, publish (whether self-publish or with a publisher), and market! Today, we’re talking about every step of this journey, so that you can finally write the book that you know has been inside you for so long!

Key Points

  • Publishing a book could come much sooner than you think
  • Everyone works differently, what is important is that you understand and use the processes that you know will help you get it done
  • Test content online to see what connects with other people
  • Do work ahead of time, establish the roadmap for what you want to do, instead of figuring it out as you go
  • Think about who you’re writing for, and then write specifically to that audience
  • The number one challenge in writing a book is simply starting it
  • The best time to start anything is right now, and this goes for writing books too
  • Consider recording yourself speaking, if that’s how you work best, and record it, to start to get a really good idea of what you should be writing about
  • Traditional publishing is a very long process, so it is not for everyone
  • Books can also be a powerful lead magnet, if you want to use it for that
  • A book will validate you as an expert in your field
  • Being too concerned about ROI in the short-term of writing a book is usually a short-sighted concern
  • Know what you’re hoping to accomplish with a book before writing it
  • Consider using kickstarter for your book
  • Strategically ask other people for help
  • Consider giving away the first few chapters for free in exchange for an email, as an opt-in, on your website
  • Think about where your target audience spends its time, and go there to promote your book

The Step by Step Formula to Write a Book

  1. Start blogging yesterday (or today if that’s not possible)
  2. Get an outline of the content. Treat it like buckets of content
  3. Use the Free 25-Step Write Checklist available on: LucidBooks.net
  4. Once manuscript is done, work on editing
  5. Title, cover, refine, refine, refine!

The best gift that we can give ourselves is a better understanding of ourselves, and Lou Redmond is on today’s episode to speak about that process of finding ourselves, why it is so important, and what the benefits in life are.

If you find yourself struggling in your “outer world,” in your outer success, relationships, and happiness, it’s time to take a deep look at your “inner world.” Because your inner world is what sets you up for either success or failure in life. Peace inside will lead you to the ability to focus on what you want to improve, and to see the kind of success that you are looking for.

In addition, we’re digging into why your environment and the friends you surround yourself with will determine in a large part your success in what you are trying to do in life. If you feel like you keep self-sabotaging your efforts, and you need to optimize your inner-self, this episode is for you!

Key Points

  • Many people try to live a life of epic partying, instead of trying to live an epic life overall
  • The best gift that we can give ourselves is a better understanding of ourselves
  • A lot of people work a job so that they can “enjoy life” on the weekend, rather than looking at their life as a whole, and trying to make the entirety better
  • A lot of us sabotage ourselves by the social circle we choose to be in
  • If you want to make a change in your life, get around other people who have done the things you want to do
  • When you’re trying to make a change, there will always be discomfort and nervousness. But push through, you’ll be glad you did on the other side
  • When you start making changes and seeing the difference, you can almost become addicted to the success, in a good way!
  • Meditation is not about zoning out, but about connecting to yourself
  • Your inner world will immediately affect your outerworld
  • That is why you must do the inner work of self-development
  • Pay careful attention to “who” your environment is, the friends you are surrounding yourself with

Do you have chronic fatigue? Always feeling sick? Chances are you are doing it to yourself. If you’re just working, and not looking into your health, wealth and love, you’re only going to cause more and more problems. Not just mental, but also physical.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James interviews fellow Aussie Melissa Ambrosini. She discusses her downfall and how not taking care of herself and only thinking about her career in entertainment caused her to wind up in the hospital. She shares inside tips about how you can find your place in the world, what really makes you happy, and how to find what you are really looking for - not just what you think you’re looking for.

Key Points

  • Not balancing these life elements can cause both physical and mental problems.
  • You have to take ownership for your own life.
  • You shouldn’t have to hit rock bottom to realize what’s important and that you need to make a change in your life.
    • What will it take for you to make that change?
    • Are you making choices from your heart or from your worries?
  • Without health, you can’t be who you want to be.
    • Eating well is simple, yet we make it hard on ourselves.
    • Quality food can quickly improve your quality of life.
  • Finding your love will make you successful.
    • Hard work won’t seem so hard when it’s something  you love.
    • You’ll feel you have to accomplish something.
  • Be open and curious about the world, and things that interest you.
  • Don’t think about your goals in a selfish manner, do what you do for others.
  • Find what you want to do by looking at what you don’t want to do.
  • Love yourself.
    • If you treat yourself like crap, others will too.
    • If you want more love in your life, give love throughout the day.
  • Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable.
  • Master your inner critic.
    • Everyone has negative thoughts and makes mistakes.

Are you trapped in a community bubble? Do you shun people for their political belief? You might be surprised to find just how different the world can be, even in the same country.

On this episode, James continues his journey through Tennessee. His adventures lead him to discover just how divided people are in America, through feedback he received from his social media while visiting a shooting range.

While visiting his friends, James also spoke with two girls in their early twenties that were amazed someone like him was unmarried in their forties. On the other hand, James was shocked that it was uncommon for a woman here to not have a husband and children by the age of 22. His eyes were opened to the idea of communities putting family values ahead of  career goals and fascinated at just how many ways there really are to live your life.

Key Points

  • James shares his experience in Tennessee with Trump Supporters versus his liberal friends back in Los Angeles, and explores the many ways to live your life.
  • James talks about how Americans wear their political views on their sleeves, and how divided communities can be.
  • The influence of community values: Career goals vs. Family goals.
    • Can you be content without a romantic relationship?
    • Can career success be fulfilling enough?
  • All the constant fighting in the world over personal perceptions.
  • The history of Tennessee's Centennial Park, and its creation to celebrate the 19th amendment.
  • Everyone has a right to an opinion and it seems harsh to push someone away just because they have conflicting views.

Do you know how to effectively sell? The ability to sell is one of the most useful skills to have in this world. While it is essential to business, it also plays a large role in other aspects of your life. Your ability to persuade others will determine to a large extent the amount of success that you are able to have in life.

So today I am going through the details of how to improve your sales pitch and close more leads. When it comes to selling, a lot of it is an inner game with yourself to create the right mindset to be able to effectively help your lead take the action that will change their life!

Listen to this episode to find out how I was able to sell millions of dollars of product over the phone, and find out how to improve your pitch and become more persuasive!

Key Points

  • Consider your sales activity as helping people to take action that will be good for them. You’re helping them, not the other way around
  • No matter what you’re selling, it’s all about creating and showing value
  • Sales is all about identifying the pain point of your prospect
  • After you understand the pain, speak in that language, and focus on that
  • Get your prospect to identify their past, the pain, and then see your product as the solution to that pain
  • Understanding the pain, and having had it yourself, helps you so much
  • Ask your prospect how making the change they want to make, solving the pain, would change their life
  • Sales is all about comparing your past pain with the potential future of solving the pain
  • Authenticity is essential to sales
  • Your ability to open up and being genuine is going to separate yourself from other people who are trying to sell them
  • Review your sales pitch, and try to identify where you lost the sale

Is there a job you’ve always wanted, but have never applied for? Why have you not done these things? Realize if you never try, they will absolutely never happen.

Completing these things, is simply as just showing up. You will miss out on these things if you never attempt them. You will regret it, for who knows as long, as well as missing out on great experiences, or even something that could change your life.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James broadcasts from the Jake Owen concert in Nashville, Tennessee. He discusses the importance of chasing after your dreams, and just showing up.

  • James auditioned for a job with ESPN as a sports anchor and got the job. He simply showed up and the results were positive.

Have you ever thought about the impact your friends have made on your life? Think about your closest friends, have they impacted you positively or negatively? Can you think of specific times that they have inspired you to make positive changes in your life? If not, you may be allocating too much time to the wrong people.

Time is one of the greatest things you can give a person. It is something that is limited, and can become scarce after you take out the amount of time you sleep, eat, and work. When you have free time, are you spending it with people that teach you new things? Or challenge you to be a better individual?

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James details the importance in picking your friends, and even moreso with your close friends. It is said that you are known for those you hang around with. Those that are close to you are the ones that will influence you largely. Pick your friends wisely, because they will determine the quality of your life.

Key Points

  • It is the quality of your friends, relationships, and acquaintances, that determine the quality of your life.
  • Who you hang around with effects the conversations that constantly surround you.
    • If you spend time with people who are business savvy, then your conversations will revolve around business.
    • If you are hanging out with healthy people, then you are going to have healthy conversations.
  • Be choosey with whom you spend you time with.
  • The top 5 people you dedicate your time to will influence your character the most.
    • Who do you spend time with?
    • Are you learning from them?
    • Do you feel good after hanging out with them?
  • Proximity is power. Whoever you are close to will influence you.
  • Hang out with people you want to become like.
  • Hang out with people who are smarter than you, who inspire you, who challenge you.
  • Put yourself in situations that make you feel uncomfortable because the people you are with are smarter than you.
  • Your standard of living will change depending on who you are with.

People all across the world have shelves and shelves of books that discuss self-help. Every years hundreds and hundreds of books are published on self-help, ranging from business topics, to weight loss, to spiritual pick me ups. Do you find yourself constantly purchasing these types of books, but never actually applying any of these tips to your life?

Think about your own life, the knowledge that you have, and what you need to do to change something in your life. Do you apply the knowledge you have to your actions? Or do you simply learn new information, and place it on the shelf?

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James discusses the importance of taking action when it comes to self help and not just sitting by as your life goes on. Do not let your self help turn into shelf help!

Key Points

  • It’s not what you don’t know, it’s what you do know that you don’t do.
  • If you know what you should do / what you are supposed to do, and you don’t do it, no amount of self help / new books / new coaching will help. You will become to ‘new’ things.
  • Its great to get help, read books, get coaching tips, but if you do not actually take it to heart, nothing will change.
  • If you don’t take action on the things you learn, nothing will change.
  • Learn how to take action, and change what needs to change.
  • Do not allow self-help to turn into shelf help.
  • You do the right thing by buying the new book, seeing the new coach, attending the new seminar, but if you only turn it not shelf help then you will stay the same.
  • People all across the world have shelves and shelves of self help books. This is fine, just actually apply the information in the books to your life.
  • Recently attended a conference in Nashville, where I learned a lot, but spent a lot of money on learning new things.
  • This money is not a waste, because I will apply it to my life. If I sat back, and did not change anything, then it would be a waste.
  • If you want to improve, then simply apply the knowledge you have to your life, and things will change.
  • It only matters if you do the things you know.
  • The best way to learn anything is to teach it.
  • Learn to be a man of your word, if you say you are going to do something, do it.

Your network of friends and acquaintances hold the blueprint to your future, whether you recognize it or not. Who you hang around with influences you hugely, and will shape how successful you are. If those around you are not challenging you, holding you to high standards, being sources of inspiration and knowledge, then you should look at who you are surrounding yourself with.

Recently, on a trip to Nashville, James met up with entrepreneur, Mike Zeller, who started a variety of businesses, selling over one-hundred million dollars in product. Eli Wilhide, and Brandon Carter introduced us over email. Even this interaction demonstrates the importance in good relationships.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James and guest, Mike Zeller, delve into the importance of friendships, and share stories from personal experience on this. Mike points out some daily practices he keeps in order to be most productive and aware of his time.

Key Points

  • Mike Zeller loves to launch businesses that will make the world a better place.
  • Get close with people who also want to not only change the world, but make it better than before.
  • Spend time with people who make things happen, and be a person that makes things happen.
  • Mike argues that your life will be a reflection of the five people you are closest to. This includes healthwise, spiritually, mentally, athletically.
  • Learn how to shift all relationships into something incredible and compelling, even if they are in a rutt. You can do this by setting new expectations and standards in order to create movement within the relationship.
  • A self-directed life is empowering, you are in charge over your life, instead of feeling powerless.
  • Three important parts to your day: mastery, purpose, and autonomy.
    • Learn to be aware of these, and put an emphasis on each.
    • Create the destiny that you want.
  • It’s important to start your day off on the right foot, a simple 15 minutes of meditation, reading, etc.
  • We have to fight to retain direction and control of our lives.
  • Mike recommends to turn your phone on airplane mode in the mornings so that you can focus on yourself.
  • It is important to protect your decision making energy. If you are constantly being pushed and pulled by others, you will become depleted of this energy.

Are you thinking of starting a business or in the process of doing so? Do you often find yourself questioning if you are making the right decisions and moving forward with your plans? Do you ever feel that you are not making progress as fast as you thought you would?

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James details the importance in investing in a business coach. In 2013, James spent $25,000 on business coach, Ty Lopez, and because of that he has made one hundred times that.

The great entrepreneur and coach,Tony Robbins said, “ it doesn't matter what has happened to you in your past that determines who you become, rather it’s your decision on what to focus on, what things mean to you, and what you are going to do about them that determines your destiny.” James discusses the importance of investing in a business mentor, and how it will speed up your process, as well as teach you things you didn’t even know you needed to know.

It pays to invest.

Key Points

  • I spent $25,000 on a business coach in October 2013, and it was the best investment I have ever made.
  • Investing in one-on-one coaching will be the best investment for any business owner.
  • James was coached by Ty Lopez, a controversial online entrepreneur who taught him more than he thought he would ever learn about business.
  • Up until that point he attended free seminars, looked for free stuff, etc.
  • Because the information was free, he was not valuing this information.
  • The moment he spent the $25,000 was the moment he focused.
  • It brought clarity on the topic, and forced him to put his nose to the grind.
  • Things you learned:
    • As soon as you take information seriously, you will start to see results.
    • All the greats in life have mentors.
    • How to create a business, start an ecommerce site, publish a book, put together programs
  • Most recently started to put together a happiness program. Without the guidance of a business coach, there is no way he would venture into all these different business ventures.
  • Richard Branson puts an emphasis on mentoring when it comes to making ones way in business.
  • You have to learn to take action, in order for the payoff to come in 12-18 months down the line.
  • It takes a while to see results on a new business venture, but having a business coach can speed this up.
  • Work with people who are familiar with your line of work, and you can learn a lot from.

Do you find that you are always reaching out to others, but you are often time being turned down? From romantic relationships, to friendships, or business endeavors, how do you reach out to others? Whether it’s asking someone to get coffee, dinner, or simply to hang out, you could be posing the wrong questions.

People are busy. Time is something that is not only fleeting, but something that people do not give up easily these days. We live in a selfish culture, where people are constantly thinking about themselves and their own success. It is very rare to find someone that is selfless, and willing to dedicate any time, or resources to another being. This might sound harsh- but you do it too, we all do!

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James discusses the importance of starting new friendships off on the right foot. He argues that the traditional route of offering coffee, or dinner to someone, in exchange for advice, does not work, as time is so important these days. He points out the importance of offering something of value to the person you are seeking help or advice from, something that can help them. Stop offering coffee, and start figuring out what you can offer of value, if you truly want a real, authentic relationship with someone.

Key Points

  • To earn the right to a real relationship, you must reach out with generosity.
  • Stop believing that you are entitled to another person’s generosity.
  • Work to earn the right to an authentic relationship.
  • The way to earn an authentic relationship is by leading with generosity.
  • Everyone is walking around, thinking about themselves first and foremost.
  • Everyone is also busy, so people are selfish with their time.
  • Don’t offer coffee or lunch, offer something that actually assists that person.
  • It might sound transactional in the beginning, but then it will grow into an authentic relationship.
  • Nobody in the begining wants a relationship with you.
  • Just because you ask for help, does not mean you will receive it.
  • Don’t bust your ass to be, but bust your ass to be generous.
  • Do an experiment and try connecting with someone the way you normally do, and then try my way by offering them an offer of value.

People say you need to look back on old times in order to give you perspective on where you are going. Recently, James headed back to his homeland of Australia for two weeks where he traveled all over attending different events, meeting up with a variety of people, and even visited his childhood home.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James returns to Los Angeles from his two week trip to Australia. While in Australia James attended his cousin, Sylvia Jeffrey’s, “who’s who” of celebrity weddings in Australia. He then had a meet up in Sydney on Bondi Beach with some of his instagram and snapchat followers. All the while he was there, he had time to catch up with a variety of friends, as well as make new ones, as well.

Not only did James catchup with friends while in Australia but he also took time to drive out to the town where he was born, and visited his childhood home. He also saw a psychologist in Brisbane with his brother Tristan, to work on communication to benefit their business ventures. While on the trip, he read the book Radical Candor by Kim Staff, on how to be a leader, how to converse with employees, and how to be radically candid with people.

Key Points

  • Attended his cousin’s star studded wedding, had a great time, and realized the idea of a traditional wedding ceremony is not fitting for his tastes.
    • Even though he personally is not a fan of wedding ceremonies, he enjoyed the immense positivity that encompassed the entire wedding.
    • Had great rapport with Peter Fitzsimons about abstaining from alcohol.
  • After the wedding, he stayed in Sydney for a few days, and had a meet up with instagram and snapchat followers on Bondi Beach.
    • Always nice to put a faces to names, allows you to interact with your customers, and know what’s important to them.
    • Having relationships, interactions, and connections with people is so important.
    • One thing that is important for business owners: If you genuinely care, and want to help a lot of people, start with one person.
  • Following this, he met up with one of his inner circle coaching members, Tyson Brown, on Bondi Beach, as well.
  • Next, James headed to Melbourne to catch up with business partner Craig Hutchison, host of the TV show called the Footy show.
  • Went to Noosa, caught up with his friend, Brad Blanks, his wife Juliet, and their family.
  • Next, went to Melbourne, to visit his childhood home.
    • He talked with the new owners about their experiences in the home, took a video of the home, and sent it to his parents.
    • The whole experience gave him a humbling perspective, and was a positive experience as a whole.
  • While there, he went to a psychologist with his brother Tristan, had two sessions totalling around 4 hours.
    • Worked on communication, especially regarding when the other was upset.
    • Choosing your language is very important, learn how to describe how you feel.
  • For better communication regarding problems try these things:
    • Acknowledge the other person
    • State how you feel because of their actions
    • State why it's important
    • Come up with a possible solution
  • Went on a few short dates while in Australia, which were filled with friendly conversation, and great topics.
    • Try smiling at people, be friendly, make friends
  • Side note: If you are wondering how to get advice or attention from someone, then do something like pick them up at the airport.
    • I had someone ask me if I needed rides, which in turn, I received a free ride, and they received free advice.

Do you struggle with being happy with what is going on in your life? Do you ever find yourself thinking that you are the only one dealing with a specific problem? Are you constantly plagued by negative thoughts about yourself, and positive thoughts about others? Do you find yourself believing that everyone else has it together, and you are alone in your struggles?

Well, I don’t have my shit together. I am the same as you, I have problems. Change your thinking and stop thinking that everyone else is happy. No one is happily put together, because everyone has problems. Whenever I meet people who are seemingly doing better than myself, I start to believe that they have all aspects of their lives put together, while I am struggling. It might be different for others, and they might be jealous of what I am doing. Everyone is different, everyone has different struggles, different things that make them jealous.

Understand that everyone has struggles, everyone has hardships, everyone has negative thoughts; you are not alone.

Key Points

  • Everyone has problems that they are worried about, you are not alone.
  • No one is seamlessly put together, and content with all aspects of their life.
  • If you go through the day worried about different problems, insecurities, or negativities, you are going to have a negative disposition.
  • If you believe you have to achieve some type of success to be worthy of a relationship then it will never happen.
  • SO, give yourself a break.
  • You don't have all your shit together, but neither does anyone.
  • You need to change your mentality, and alter your mindset.
  • The only way you can grow is through resistance to negativity.
  • The key to empathy is vulnerability.
  • Everyone feels inferior, so when you can simply admit that, that’s when relationships form.
  • Be vulnerable, talk about your losses and failures, you will find connections from it.
  • There will always be room to create new problems, if you allow for it.
  • Self-preservation is a natural thing, but vulnerability fosters growth.
  • You will never be able to rid yourself of negative feelings, but you can learn how to curb them.

Do you desire a job where you do not clock in and clock out each day? Do you desire a job that is not average, and is something everyone is jealous of? Have you ever thought of ditching your day job and starting your own business? On today’s episode of the James Swanwick show, James is joined by Daniel DiPiazza, entrepreneur and author, who discusses what triggered his love of business, and the freedoms that come with it.

When Daniel graduated from college in 2009, the economy and real estate market were at a lull. He realized he had two choices, either to do the corporate route or complete a higher education degree. He, simply, did not want to do either. He began working a bunch of random jobs, and started blogging about it. Working in what he called, ‘dead end,’ jobs allowed Daniel to pick up on multiple skills including learning how to organize systematically and how to eliminate small problems in your work. Shortly after working in these jobs, he realized he wanted to start his own business.

Daniel points out that businesses solve pain points, then poses the question: what pain points can you solve? Daniel points out that often times people fear looking stupid when starting a business, but that will actually waste their time. Daniel DiPiazza teaches you how to ditch your average job, start an epic business, and score the life you want. You can read more about Daniel in his new book Rich20Something.

Key Points

  • Daniel wrote Rich20Something in response to working a bunch of dead end jobs, and finally starting his own business.
  • Daniel points out there are different phases you go through when starting a business, and the frustration that comes with each.
  • Learning how to spread out your emotional energy is important, so you do not overstress in the first stage.
  • Entrepreneurship is great, but you have to learn to be able to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
  • Daniel always recommends freelancing for those who want to ditch their day jobs and start their own business.
  • Do an inventory of your skills to see what you can offer.
    • It is a great first step, as it is something you can do on the side while still working your full-time job.
    • You can start it immediately, do not need to buy product, hire staff, etc.
    • You can advertise your skill sets on a variety of platforms including social media, quora, reddit, or upwork.
  • The quickest way to success is to simply improve upon something that is already available.
  • 3 step validation process:
    • Is there anyone else doing it? Is there a market fit?
    • Is your competition making money?
    • What can you do to improve your product?
  • Tips with starting your own business:
    • Learn to balance your freelance income with your job.
    • Have a plan A and a plan B. Let your plan B redirect your failed plan A, if it does fail.
    • It is important to learn how to communicate with people efficiently.
    • Put your product / service on the market, even if it is not perfect yet.
  • Have 100 meaningful conversations with different people over the course of the year, with what you are doing. This:
    • Creates and solidifies your elevator pitch
    • Opens networking opportunities, and you will meet way more than 100 people
    • Will grow your confidence with the process over time
  • Starting your own business will teach you the:
    • Importance of good leadership
    • Importance of building good systems that are not dependent on you
    • Ability to grow up, and separate your emotions from the things you are in charge of.
  • When you start a business you can hire people, you can travel, you can have freedom, and you can create the life you want.

It is a common belief that alcohol is a must-needed substance at social events. Whether you are hanging out at home on a friday night, or going out to eat with a group of friends, you will find alcoholic beverages are a constant. There are plenty of myths that come with alcohol, like the idea that in order to have a good time, you must drink, or in order to fit in, you must drink.

On today’s episode of the James Swanwick show, James is joined by Geffrey Marr, who completed James’s 30 day no alcohol challenge. Not only did Marr complete the 30 day challenge, but he went 93 days straight without the beverage. Marr found that there were no positives that came with drinking, but that there were a handful of negatives that came with the consumption. Geffrey found that ridding his diet of alcohol, allowed for him to make progress in other areas of his life.

Your life can be so much more beneficial without alcohol, with areas of your life, you never imagined, improving! Jeffrey joins James to detail all the positives that came to his life after leaving alcohol behind.

  • Would have a few beers a couple days a week, and spend $15-60 a night.
  • Whether he had a single beer, or a handful, he did not like how he felt the morning after.
  • As someone who runs his own business, he felt he was less motivated the morning after a night out, and falling behind on necessary tasks.
  • Once he decided that I would not be drinking for 30 days, it was as if a switch went off in his head. He immediately did not want a single drink.
  • Favorite part of the alcohol challenge: the private facebook group that gives you support.
  • Hardest part of the alcohol challenge: being in a situation where you would have previously drank.
  • Most surprising part of the alcohol challenge: the clarity that comes with the sobriety.
  • Teaching moment: what situations are actually most enjoyable, and not just seemingly fun, while drunk.
  • Such a societal norm for people to drink, that it seemed odd when I wouldn't. People questioning, “Why you won’t just have one drink?”
  • At first, it was weird going out to the bar, feeling as if he could not get loose, but after committing to the idea of being sober:
    • he began to have more fun, saved money, and has not done anything crazy
  • Benefits from 93 days without drinking:
    • When you are trying to develop your skill sets
    • Sleep better
    • Communicate better
    • Manage time better
    • Increasing your progress in the gym

Have you ever found yourself feeling restricted in your occupation? Have you ever thought to yourself, that you could be so much more productive with your time if you were in charge of it? What would you do if you could design your daily, weekly, monthly schedules? Would you work early mornings? In an office? Or travel the world while working?

On this episode, James is joined by one of his podcast listeners, James Harrison, as he gives him a ride to the Melbourne airport. James, a twenty-six year old Aussie resident, currently works in a sales role with a basic 9-hour structure. Although he doesn't mind his job, he yearns for something that would give him more freedom in his work day. James feels restricted, and that he would be more productive if he was working on his own terms. James would like to explore the possibility of doing long-term travel, going to a new city for a few months, but make a living while doing so.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James gives James Harrison a few pointers on starting his own business, while helping him curb his thinking into a clear and concise marketing pitch.

    • All business is, is solving problems.
    • In marketing you want to make the message simple, in order for customers to hear the pitch quickly.
    • Try to eliminate unnecessary words, or phrases, and polish a short, and quick idea.
    • Whenever you are trying to tell someone your story, or business idea, you do not want to make people think.
    • Clear messaging is important, it should be so simple that it’ almost stupid.
  • James Swanwick’s advice for those that want to start their own businesses?
    • Determine a common problem, then find a simple solution.

Have you ever been a bartender? Or have you ever ordered a drink from a bartender? If so, have you ever received advice from a bartender? Have you ever interacted with a bartender that you found particularly interesting. To some surprise, most bartenders have other jobs, side hustles, where they are also generating profit. They work tirelessly to live their lives according to their standards, and feelings of motivation and inspiration play a large role in this. On today’s episode of the James Swanwick Show, James talks to a bartender about the good, the bad, and the lessons learned from bartending.

Grab a stool, as the author of The Bartending Therapist, Jason Herald, talks about society from a bartender's perspective. Jason lives by the motto, “the bar is a metaphor for life, it is a place that provides good times, memories, and life lessons.” Jason realized this when he started to bartend after leaving a career in sportscasting. When Jason entered the bartending scene, he did not realize that one day he would have a book all about his adventures with bartending, and life in general. Listen to this week's episode, as Jason explains valuable life lessons he picked up while behind the bar.

Key Points

  • Jason talks about life, and the lessons he has learned throughout, while hoping others can learn from them as well.
  • People need to be motivated, but more than just motivation, they need action.
  • Motivation without action results in nothing.
  • A sense of motivation and inspiration can be seen throughout Jason’s book, which persuade the reader to jump into action.
  • Often times people will ridicule Jason for being a bartender, and claim he does not have the authority to give advice on life.
  • His advice? People will always say “you are just a...” Do not let their negativity affect you.
  • Things Jason has learned from bartending:
    • One of the highlights is the people you get to meet.
    • For the most part, at the root of humanity, people are good. Sometimes people just chose to do shitty things.
    • Learn to maximize your time. Bartending allows you to work flexible hours, so you can work multiple jobs.
    • Take advantage of the diverse crowd and take time to network.
  • Moving moments: Big family get togethers, parties
  • Negative moments: Seeing teenagers have to pick up their intoxicated parents from the bar.
  • Different types of people that come in:
    • Drunk girl: An attention seeker, who will stand up on the bar, also known as the ‘hot mess.’
    • Drunk guy: Belts a very off-key “Don’t Stop Believing,” often having an alpha personality, yet still gets all the girls.
    • The wallflower: Comes in frequently, but does not say a word to others.
    • The creeper: Enters the bar, sits somewhere quietly, gets drunk, and then proceeds to make a move on the prettiest girl at the bar.
    • The regular: Comes into the bar frequently, where the bartender knows your order. Two types follow,
      • Prophets: people that are there every night that discuss what they are going to do.
      • Warriors: people that come in, eat, grab a beer, talk a bit, but are there an hour tops.
  • For bartenders it’s easy to break a conversation because they can simply say they have things to do, like cleaning.
  • If someone is bothering girls, Jason says he often times tries to get, said creeper, distracted enough to leave others alone.
  • Interesting fact about Jason:  He does not look at tips until after the customers leave because he does not want it to effect his work ethic.
  • Overall lessons learned:
    • Don’t have a preconceived notion on a person, nix the stereotypes.
    • Constantly calculating moves, trying to do tasks to save just a few minutes.
    • Always look to optimize time.
    • People come into your life, sometimes only for a moment, and once you can recognize that, you can witness something special.

Have you ever wanted to become your own health coach? Wondered how you can possibly hack your health by yourself? Do you constantly find yourself wanting to lose some weight, gain energy, and gain self-confidence? Did you know you can possibly reduce your chance of diabetes and cancer by integrating this? On this episode of the James Swanwick show, retired Miami model turned clinical health coach, TJ Anderson, talks about how he changed his life when he started focusing on his personal health more.

TJ Anderson joins James Swanwick to discuss his new book, “The Art of Health Hacking,” a self help book that teaches you how to both understand your health and become the healthiest version of yourself. TJ details his own personal health experience, and how he had to eliminate things like alcohol in order to become the best version of himself that he could be. During this episode he discusses a few small tips that will bring about giant changes in your life if implemented properly.

Key Takeaways:

  • James is joined by TJ Anderson, a retired Miami model turned clinical health coach turned healthcare entrepreneur. He is a self proclaimed self health hacker and author of the book “The Art of Health Hacking.”
  • Lowering your stress by maintaining routines, will allow you to start to understand your health at its core.
  • You need to get real with how you feel. Your emotions are real, and if you are not truly happy, there are steps you can take to change this.
  • As a young model in Miami, TJ had a strong relationship with alcohol, being surrounded by it constantly in the model scene.
  • When TJ returned back to Iowa after leaving Miami, he decided it was time to work on himself in a few different ways, including both physical health as well as mental health.
  • He learned that healing through biohacking and health optimization is so important for each person.
  • If you want to act like a high performer, then health hacking is for you. It is all about small things with giant benefits.
  • People need to learn to define health and what it means to them. Furthermore, how does their stress relate to this?
  • Once someone realizes that they need a new health regime in order to accomplish who they want to be, then it allows them to decide how to manage their stress.
  • One of the easiest health hacks is learning different breathing techniques. This is a good practice to use throughout the day.

When you heard the phrase, “Neuro-linguistic Programing,” what first comes to mind? Do you picture mind control tactics? Does a scene from your favorite sci-fi movie come to mind? Often times there is a negative connotation surrounding NLP, and the terminology. In reality, it simply is a form of communication, invented in the 1970’s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, that focuses on personal development and psychotherapy. NLP is a practice that is used to increase motivation, increase energy vitality, and optimize communication.

On this episode of the James Swanwick show, the topic of Neuro-linguistic Programing is explored, as Tony Wrighton, a British Sky Sports presenter, joins James. Tony is also an author and the host of the “Zestology,” podcast. Zestology is all about health, motivation, and biohacking. Today, he will tell us about how he rewired his brain to create a more improved self awareness. He will also discuss the tropical virus he picked up while exploring the jungle a few years ago and how it changed his life.

Key Points

  • Neuro-linguistic Programing, a practice that everyone can learn.
  • NLP focuses on increasing energy vitality and motivation in a person.
  • NLP holds a poorly worded name for a great group of skills to optimize mind and body communication.
  • Although NLP is a positive practice, often times you will stumble upon someone using it improperly, or just poorly.
  • There is nothing worse than a bad NLPer. This is usually someone who learns the skills and uses them to get their way on everything, in a more manipulative manner.
  • Tony details his three months in bed because of picking up a tropical virus, when he was barely able to walk down the street.
  • When you are forced to lay low by something so physical like a virus, iy disables you from using NLP.
  • It was a dark time in Tony’s life, and what helped him recuperate as not traditional medication, but functional medicine. This inspired him to always look to functional treatments.
  • Originally, Tony got into NLP by practicing the skills on his radio show, by trying to get people to listen longer, and to gather more listeners. Over a period of four years, he gathered more listeners than the DJ held at the breakfast time slot.
  • NLP is all about tonality and persuasive language. You can harness the power of NLP with more descriptive language, as well as richer language. Bring in sensory
  • Part of NLP is about asking more open ended questions, instead of asking yes or no one’s.
  • An example of this is not asking a child when they want to tidy their room but asking whether they want to do it before or after dinner.
  • A yes set: Three statements that sound like questions, that will be answered with yes, that set a precursor to the actual question you have for them.
  • NLP is a positive practice for yourself as it allows you to reframe negative things in a more positive light. You can reframe, or retell the story that surrounds whatever is happening, simply changing the narrative.
  • We mainly experience the world in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic but, if you have something from the past that is holding you back, simply reframe it.
  • NLP is supposed to be used to inspire someone, to motivate them to get what they want done, but you can also use it to persuade someone.
  • An example of this is by asking a person a question about something that brings an intense emotion of positivity from them. When they reach the climax of description, touch them lightly on the shoulder. Later if you want to persuade them to do something, lightly touch them on the shoulder again.

Is there a place where you have always dreamed of moving to, just haven't made the decision to do so yet? If so, why haven’t you moved there? What is holding you back from acting on these feelings?

Recently I have been tossing around the idea of moving to a new place. I have lived in LA for a while now, and am craving something new and exciting. I would love to live in a place where the entrepreneurial scene is flourishing. A place with a strong sense of community, preferably not a huge city. I want to move to a place where I can connect to the local community, make friends with the locals, and learn about the culture.

Do you live in a place that sounds like the above? Or have you visited a place that reminds you of this?On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James details his desire to move, and asks for suggestions on where to move to.

Key Points

  • Where is the one place that you've visited that made you want to go back and live there permanently one day?
  • I am wondering where is the best place to reside? Not the best place to visit but to live in?
  • I have lived all over the world, mainly in larger cities, including:
    • Backashmarsh, Australia
    • Brisbane Australia
    • London, England
    • Los Angeles, California
    • NYC, New York
    • Buenos Aires, Argentina
    • Magangue  & Bogata Colombia
    • Austin, Texas
  • Recently I have been exploring the idea of picking up everything and moving somewhere new.
  • People have suggested Boulder, CO, Nashville, TN, or the Pacific Northwest; while my mother wants me in Australia.
  • Where do you think I should move to?
  • I have a few minor requirements. I want to be around a positive entrepreneurial lifestyle promoting types of communities.
  • An environment that wasn’t too big, but wasn’t too small. I want a strong feeling of community, something I have not really experienced before. You can lose personal connections in a huge city.
  • If I was interested in a romantic relationship, then I would be interested in someone who had an independent location business, that way if I said I wanted to leave for Australia in five minutes, then she could. I am interested in someone who is health conscious, and holds strong family values.
  • I like LA because of the ability to jump on a plane, and get almost anywhere in a relatively easy fashion. I was not a huge fan of the cold weather in NYC, so warm weather is a bit more preferable.
  • Do the things I listed out remind you where you live? Or remind you of a place you have visited? Let me know, pitch it to me!

This past week I was at the Traffic and Conversion Conference. I spent the week catching up with friends, and meeting new ones. I was surrounded by internet marketers, entrepreneurs, and a plethora of innovators. One day, during the conference, I was talking to a few new people I had not previously met. While in conversation, I found myself starting to brag about my latest ventures with my company. Furthermore, I found myself throwing out monetary numbers in regards to the growth of my business.

I dislike it immensely when people name drop, or quote their yearly salary, yet there I was, doing the exact same thing. What I realized really quickly was that I was dropping numbers to make up for the insecurities I was feeling while at this conference. I was surrounded by people making ten times more than I was, yet I felt the need to broadcast my success.

Do you ever feel like you are trying to big-note yourself to gain the respect from others? Do you try to undermine your abilities and successes for praise? Does this stem from an insecurity? And are you aware of such insecurity? On this episode of the James Swanwick show, James explains how insecurities can cause us to exploit the things we hold the most disdain for, while instilling even more insecurities within.

Key Takeaways

  • Deliberately and strategically telling people about my new business instead of waiting for it to come up in conversation.
  • This came from insecurity in my own personality.
  • I was, and I am, insecure.
  • The Australian culture is very much against showboating, opposed to the United States
  • I have always struggled with finding a happy balance between sharing your story / success and boasting about your career.
  • If I was secure, I would have been present in the moment, and not just fixated on what these people thought of me.
  • I was so eager for respect from them, and that is a weak part of my personality.
  • Why did I not feel enough?
  • Even though this was a downside to the conference, it is a moment for growth potential.
  • Being transparent with this, forces me to grow uncomfortable. Learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable will force you to grow in your character.
  • How can I talk about the growth of my business without posting financial numbers? Easy- simply talk about the growth in units.
  • Why have you tried to impress others before with numbers? What does this mean for you? Let me know your thoughts.

Do you find yourself often saying “no,” to invitations? When a colleague asks you to attend a seminar, do you shudder at the mention? When your spouse asks you to attend an informational seminar, do you quickly think of a reason not to attend?

Conferences are good for a plethora of reasons, especially if you are truly wanting to learn more about the topic of the conference. Often times people skip out on conferences, or seminars because they do not have the time for the event. If you skip out on these conferences you can miss out on the many ways that you can grow as a person, in turn, growing your business.

In this episode of the James Swanwick show, James details how attending a conference can change your life, and your mentality with things. Not only did this conference increase James intelligence, but it also increased his earnings within his company. Learn how much you can benefit from simply attending a conference or seminar like event, in this episode of the James Swanwick show.

Key Takeaways

  • Recently, and very last minute, I attended the Traffic and Conversion conference in San Diego.
  • I ran into fifty people I already knew, and was introduced to roughly another fifty that I did not know prior.
  • I was able to catch-up with a plethora of friends who I had not seen in a while.
  • The security was loose and did not check most badges when people walked in. It made it easy for me to sneak into three or four sessions.
  • I was able to network with a variety of people all coming from different backgrounds. I even met someone from Brisbane who had my mother as an elementary school teacher. Furthermore, he was the former CEO of my friends company. Small world!
  • I went to a conference, last minute, not knowing what to expect, but expecting the most.
  • I simply went to the conference with an attitude to learn, and I learned more than I could have ever expected.
  • I caught up with a lot of old friends, meanwhile reaching out to people I normally wouldn't, all while making a lot of new friends.
  • I was able to catch up with my friends in the mastermind group, the Brotherhood.
  • Joshua Goldberg, in conversation, helped me with a few problems I have been  experiencing with my business. From one simple piece of advice, I will potentially save thousands of dollars a month. Spending a few minutes with him, will save my business around twenty grand this month alone.
  • If I hadn't gone to the conference, I would not have been in the position to gather this information, and save my business this much money.
  • Go to conferences and seminars when there is a concentration in what you are working in, or trying to improve yourself in.
  • Anything from a health and fitness seminar, to a mindfulness seminar, to a marriage conference, to a pick-up seminar, attending a conference is powerful for you and your life.
  • Figure out what you want to learn, google that topic and the word ‘conference’, book the conference, and just go!

Do you have past pain? Does past negative energy hold you back from feeling truly happy? Is something in your past weighing you down? Does it bring about an on-going feeling of mediocrity? We all have felt these negative emotions at one time or another.

On this show I interview Cindy Mazzaferro, a motivational speaker, and energy and vibrational healer who details different steps to resolve past pain and present energy. She teachers others how to transform their mental understanding, by taking action steps forward in the opposite direction from what is holding them back.

Do you often times find yourself falling down a negative downward spiral? Or having trouble with positive energy? Find out how you can resolve your problems with negative energy and negative emotions on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways

  • Cindy explains how past energy, and emotions, can trickle into your everyday energy, and often times can affect your mood in a negative way.
  • It is common for feelings of self-anger, resentment, and guilt to create bad vibrations internally, which create unhealthy situations in our body.
  • These unhealthy situations in our bodies can often times manifest into outside bodily issues.
  • There is nothing better, and more important than taking ownership, feeling empowered, and finding your true authentic self.
  • There are practical steps to resolve these problems of insecurity, and emotions of negativity.
  • The first, is to identify the problem that is holding you back.
  • The second, is that every time we start to feel negative, and we are stepping into a situation that brings us this negative energy, we need to be assertive with ourselves by telling ourselves we are powerful.
  • The third is, once you are working on your negative energy in a positive way, then you need to figure out a way to create this positive space in your future.
  • The more often that you focus on your positive energy, the more easy it becomes for you to send out positive energy.
  • As you nurture this, you, yourself, will become a happier person who creates innate patterns within. These patterns will create a comfortable and serene place of community for yourself.
  • Leave behind your life of feeling unhappy, under-valued, unappreciated, lonely, isolated, purposeless, passionless, judged, and unlovable, and start loving yourself fully the way you deserve.
  • YOU are powerful, you can take comfort in yourself, and believe in your own means.

Everyone has one thing that they love with great emotion. Something that lights up their face with a smile when mentioned in passing. Whether that is a sport, a person, an object, or an action, we all have that one thing that holds importance inside of us. For me, I find great pleasure in watching my favorite band perform.

It all began in 1987, when at the age of 12, I fell in love with Bon Jovi. I was growing up in Brisbane, Australia, when I was invited to my first concert, unaware of how hard I would fall in love with this band. The concert brought great energy and fireworks of emotion. I was hooked. By 1989, the walls of my bedroom were covered in posters, and I was frequently referred to as “James who loves Bon Jovi.” I developed a great passion for their music over the years, and still see them in concert routinely. Usually, I would spend a moderate amount to see them perform, because I never found the more expensive tickets worth it. That was until recently, when I spent $472.50 on a single ticket. It was sporadic, and last minute, but more than worth it.

So why did I spend $472.50 on a ticket, and why do I recommend this action to friends? Find out more about the great rewards in investing in what you love on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways

  • Although I am not the enthusiast that I used to be, the positive memories that carry with Bon Jovi are endless, like the t-shirt I recieved for my 18th birthday, or the Bon Jovi figurine I was gifted for a different birthday.
  • That is why one day I decided to spend $472.50 on a single Bon Jovi Concert Ticket.
  • My love for the band lead me to treating myself to the best seat that I could afford, responsibly.
  • I was seven or eight sections back, direct center, right in front of Bon Jovi. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
  • Attending this concert, and purchasing such an excellent ticket gave me immense satisfaction.
  • Purchasing this ticket made me feel wealthy, and rich, and that the whole world was at my fingertips. It opened my eyes to the freedom that comes with spending on what you love.
  • Not only did it bring me to a high of emotion, but it rewired my brain. It made me realize that doing things independently brings me lots of satisfaction.
  • Being there by myself made me feel an immense power, that I didn’t need a partner, or company to do something like this. It was liberating.
  • It felt good knowing I could invest that amount of money in the concert ticket. It was satisfactory knowing it did not hurt me to invest that much in the concert. It brought me immense happiness knowing I was at a place where I could do that and not worry about it.
  • I have identified something that brings me pleasure, now you have to identify something that does the same to you.
  • Often times we deprive ourselves of joy because of the opportunity cost that comes with it.
  • If you enjoy being with friends, spend more time with them. If you like your family, invest time with them. Invest in what YOU love.
  • First- define what you love the most, and what brings you the most joy in life.
  • Second- pursue this, and then invest in it, whether it is investing your money, or your time.
  • I have never regretted spending almost $500 on a concert ticket, and neither will you if you invest in what brings you the ultimate joy.

People love to be thought of. Whether it’s a quick Snapchat, or a letter in the mail, the thought that others care enough to reach out has an immense impact on a person. If you can learn simple practices to stay in touch with others, then your relationships will grow, and studies show- you will be happier. On today’s episode I am going to discuss the simplicity and accessibility that technology brings to keeping up with friendships.

We are lucky. It has never been easier to stay in touch with a friend than it is now. The technology that we have allows us to communicate with people that are thousands of miles away, or just a mere block away. It can take seconds to simply send a quick text message, record a quick audio, or even send a video to remind someone that you are thinking about them.

People love to be thought of. Who, in your life, can you just pick up the phone and give a quick call to? Learn the importance of seconds of intentionality with conversation on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways

  • Studies have shown that the happiest people have a good group of friends and acquaintances. These are people that they can count on, people that they have deep relationships with, and history with; is there a point that you would let a friendship peter out?
  • DO NOT let a good friendship peter out, simply send a quick text, voice memo, or video to remind them you are thinking about them.
  • Long distance is no excuse for a poor friendship.
  • Messaging is FREE. There is absolutely no excuse not to send a quick message to a good friend.
  • That said- messaging is lame, you’re still hiding behind the electronic world with small written statements. You cannot tell a tone, expression, or intent with a text message.
  • Recording a quick voice message will allow you to be more personal with someone as they can hear your tone and expression through the message.
  • Audio is more powerful than the written word, I challenge you to leave an audio message for your friend. Next thing you know you will have an ongoing string of voice messages being sent back and forth.
  • Even more personal than audio is a video message. Who wouldn’t love getting a video message from a friend, reminding them they’re still important to them?
  • Everyone has their preference in communication, but if you start sending audio and video messages, you will watch as your long distance friendships become more and more personal with time.
  • Thanks to ever-improving technology, keeping up with friends just keeps getting easier and easier. Take advantage of this.

Today I’m taking a walk around Hollywood and having a conversation with entrepreneur Sophia Parsa about her journey to building businesses that are successful, that do good, and create positive cashflow.

Along the way, we talk about how to start new relationships, why passion is an essential ingredient to your business idea, the importance of mentorship, and why too many people are worried about others stealing their amazing idea, when the only thing that really matter is execution!

If you’ve ever wanted to start a business, or maybe have one going already, this episode is going to bring you advice to up your entrepreneur game and see success!

Key Takeaways:

  • Start new relationships with the question: How can I help this person?
  • Strike up friendly conversations with no agenda
  • Unless you have passion and an amazing idea, it’s probably foolish to jump into starting a business
  • Instead, go find someone to learn from
  • Put emphasis on building the right team. The people you work with are one of the most important aspects of your business
  • Don’t be reluctant to share for fear that someone else will do it first. Execution is what really matters
  • The specific way that you make introductions and connections is important
  • Make SURE you’re passionate about whatever business you start
  • Be vulnerable with people

When things go wrong, it’s extremely important to learn from whatever happened. Otherwise, a mistake is a complete waste! If you carefully learn from your (or other people’s) mistakes, they can actually be a very good thing and an opportunity to learn! On today’s episode, I am going over some of the major mistakes I made last week, so that you don’t have to make them!

When you have conflict in your life, you have two options: You can either let the conflict sit there and simmer just below the surface, or you can confront it head on. If you let it simmer, you will find that it takes up a large amount of mental energy, keeps you from focusing on what you have to focus on, and essentially eats at you as long as it’s there!

Instead, the proper response is to confront it head on! It might be painful, but ripping off the bandaid quickly is far better than trying to go slow and gentle. Don’t let conflicts take up your mental energy, confront them!

Learn from my mistakes to live your best life, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways:

  • Resolve conflicts as fast as you can. When you leave things unresolved, it leaves an open loop, and it eats at you and takes up mental energy
  • When you ignore problems and don’t confront them, they don’t just go away
  • Be prepared for things to go wrong. They always will, and if you’re unprepared you will waste a lot of time
  • When you get into an emotional state, you end up making much worse decisions than you would otherwise
  • Put things in the calendar to make sure they happen
  • Be aggressive about making SURE you do what you say you’re going to do
  • Value your time and put strict limits around it

A huge amount of the world gets up every day, goes to work, and spends most of their day working at a job they don’t like, or even hate! If you think about this, this is a serious problem, and extremely sad. Most people will spend the majority of their lives at work, and if you hate your work, then you spend the majority of your life doing something you don’t like!

However, there is a growing trend and opportunity for people to transition out of the job they hate and into something they love! And the benefits of making this change are difficult to accurately put into words. They are tremendous! To move away from spending most of your life not happy at work, to spending that times fulfilled and doing something you love is a huge win!

But how do you do it? This is the tricky part, and it’s the part a lot of people mess up. You need to be aware of specific strategies for making the move, understand yourself well enough to know what strategy is best for you, and then execute. Learn how on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways:

  • One way to force yourself to make a major change is to “burn the boats” so you have no recourse and have to make it work
  • Or, while you’re doing whatever you’re unhappy with, invest time and effort learning everything you possibly can about what you want to go into
  • You can be almost certain that a lot of people won’t understand your decision to pursue what you really want
  • Each step of the way will include both joy and frustration, and both are important aspects of the learning process
  • If you’re spending time watching TV, Netflix, etc, you’re wasting time that could be spend creating your dream life
  • It doesn’t matter what you SAY you’re going to do, it only matters what you actually do
  • If you say you’re going to do something, DO IT

Did you know that when you do an act of kindness for someone, without the idea of any reciprocation but simply to help someone else out, you are probably getting even more benefit out of it than the person you are helping?

My guest today is John Wang, and he’s talking about why performing an act of kindness is actually, believe it or not, a selfish act! A good selfish act, that everyone should do more of everyday, but a selfish nonetheless because of the tremendous benefit that you will receive from performing the act!

John Wang founded the “One Kindness Challenge,” which is a challenge to perform one act of selfless (but actually selfish) act of kindness everyday! Are you ready to take the challenge?

Key Takeaways:

  • What we do every single day will have tremendous impact, whether negative or positive, whether to ourselves or the world
  • An act of kindness can in fact be a selfish act, because of the tremendous value it brings you!
  • When you help someone, endorphins are released, and you get a type of “helper’s high”
  • When you help someone, it’s important that you do it without the expectation of anything in return
  • Try doing one act of kindness each day
  • Inviting someone to something can be an act of kindness

Procrastination plagues almost everyone who dreams about doing great things. Humans are inherently lazy, which means that making progress on anything you want to do is going to be a struggle. But you have a very simple choice: The short term pain of getting off your ass and taking the first step, or the long term, immensely greater pain of regretting not reaching your full potential.

This is the incredible danger of procrastination: It can easily cause you to wake up 10 years, 25 years, or 50 years later, and feel like it passed in an instant without accomplishing what we truly wanted to. If you find yourself held back from taking the first steps in your goals and dreams, consider the very real danger and fear of waking up in 10 years and still being right where you are now.

That fear should spur you to action TODAY! This episode is my call to you to stop being lazy, to stop letting fear hold you back, and to finally beat procrastination and start doing the things you want to do in this life!

Key Takeaways:

  • Almost EVERYONE knows that they’re procrastinating too much
  • A lot of people let the thought of how long something will take keep them from getting started
  • Life will not slow down for you. You simply need to speed up to keep up with it
  • Go FASTER
  • Sometime is NO time
  • Humans beings are inherently lazy, so achievement is a constant fight against that
  • No matter how far you’ve come, you will always struggle with the desire to procrastinate. You just get better at saying no to it
  • Take short term pain over long term struggle every time
  • The struggle makes you appreciate the results more
  • The fear will never go away. You just need to feel the fear and do it anyway
  • Focus on one little step that you can take
  • Change your language to change the way you feel about something
  • Just do it

A lot of you will already know my guest today. Aaron Marino of Alpha M is an expert in fashion, self-discovery, confidence, and business. Today we’re talking about fashion, swag, and success for the modern man.

In the current age, an alpha male is a much different thing than it has been throughout history. In previous ages, dressing well was almost considered feminine, and not often conflated with the idea of the alpha male. But all of that has changed, and that is what I’m speaking with Aaron Marino about today.

We also dig into the idea of the overnight success (spoiler alert: it doesn’t exist), the single most important aspect to look at in clothing, and why each failure leads you one step closer to success. All that and more, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Key Takeaways:

  • In the modern age, the idea of an alpha-male is less one-dimensional than it used to be
  • Start helping people. Be self-less to start discovering yourself and gain confidence
  • Overnight success almost never happens. Success take time
  • Fit is the single most important aspect of clothing to consider
  • Develop a grooming habit and stick to it!
  • If you fear starting something, go through the worst-case scenario. It’s probably not that bad
  • Each failure leads you closer to success
  • We buy products that we connect with on an emotional level
  • Alcohol often leads to crappy foods. Quitting alcohol can cause a healthy chain reaction
