The James Swanwick Show

We’ve been made to believe, through clever marketing and brand positioning, that certain brands and juices are good for us. Brands like Naked and Odwalla have done everything in their power to make us believe that they are healthy options, but are we being lead astray? Are the very foods that we’ve been told are healthy, actually keeping us fat, lazy, and unproductive?

Ian Ryan, host of the Fearless and Healthy podcast, is here to talk about the sneaky ways sugar can sneak into a diet and ruin all attempts at weight loss, or just healthy living and eating in general! Some of the worst culprits are the two above mentioned brands, Naked and Odwalla, and the incredible amount of sugar that ends up in a single bottle of their “all-natural” juice does far more harm than good!

The real problem lies in the proportions. Fruits like apples and others can be beneficial in small portions, but often pre-packaged juices contain unreasonable amounts, and the sugar content gets far too high for healthy eating.

On this episode of The James Swanwick Show, Ian Ryan talks about some of the simple ways that we can know that we’re safe and healthy in what we are choosing to eat. Look for items with a very small ingredient list. Shop around the perimeter of the grocery store. Always check the serving size before the nutrition facts. Plus, tons more to help you live the healthiest lifestyle possible, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

“It doesn’t matter how healthy something is, too much of it is a bad thing.” - Ian Ryan

Notes on the Show:

  • We make certain assumptions based on the brand or the store that what they sell will be healthy, when that’s often not the case
  • Be aware of the number of servings on the container. A bottle of “healthy” juice could have 25 grams of sugar, but there’s 2.5 servings in the bottle, so a lot of people end up drinking between 50-100 grams of sugar
  • One of the only healthy ways to go is to make your own juice, and understand that you can’t pack it with fruit. More veggies than fruit. Fruit should only be added as a touch of flavor
  • Even sugars from fruit, which most people consider to be healthy, are still going to raise your blood sugar, and if you’re trying to go on a cleanse or lose weight, you need to be very conscious of the sugar levels
  • To be safe, stay away from anything that is bottled
  • Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, not the center aisles
  • Berries are often the healthiest type of fruit
  • Bananas are one of the least healthy type of fruit
  • Always pay attention to serving sizes. Even if something is healthy, too much is still a bad thing
  • Learn how to read labels and understand nutrition and portions
  • Don’t eat things with tons of ingredients
  • Avoid lean fats and fat-free foods
  • Nuts are healthy, but extremely dense in calories, so be careful of servings sizes. Eat them slowly so that they will fill you up
  • Your body is very dehydrated in the morning, so make sure you have water before anything else
  • Try a homemade healthy green smoothie in the morning

“Don’t use a lack of grass-fed meats, the ideal option, etc, to deter your diet. Following a diet is all about making do with what you’ve got.” - Robb Wolf

(click to tweet)

Debates about which diets are the best can be some of the most polarizing, intense conversations you’ll have. It seems everyone has their own opinions about what is healthiest and best, with their own well-thought-out arguments to support their stance, and yet their opinions contradict each other. How are you supposed to know what to eat?!

Today’s guest is Robb Wolf, and while this episode is all about a paleo approaching to eating, Robb Wolf will be the first to recommend that you experiment constantly, to find out what works best for you. Everybody is different and will respond to diets differently, so the most important thing is that you not get religious about the diet you choose, but that you remain open-minded about ways that you could improve what you’re eating to get better health and energy results.

With that in mind, the body of work is immense on reasons why the paleo diet both makes the most sense and is the most healthy diet that we know. If you’re looking for the best way to maximize health and energy in the foods you eat, then the paleo diet is probably what you’re looking for. So get ready to learn about it from one of the top experts, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show.

“Don’t believe what I say. Test every diet on your own body, see how you respond, and then go with that.” - Robb Wolf

Notes on the Show:

  • Paleo is not about trying to go back to the dark ages, but rather looking at the ways our bodies evolved, and how that affects the food that will give us the most energy and vibrancy in our lives
  • Our ancestors ate very protein and fat-heavy diets, with carbs playing a role occasionally, but not on a regular basis. So that is the diet that works best for our bodies
  • The immediate benefits of switching to a paleo diet is that inflammation will go down in our bodies
  • Paleo diets help increase testosterone in men, which is essential to a man’s health
  • If you’re going to drink alcohol, switch from beer to tequila or bourbon
  • Get rid of pasta and rice because of the gluten in them. Almost everyone feels better when they remove gluten from their diet
  • While grass-fed meats are ideal, don’t get stuck on the idea that they must be grassfed to make it healthy
  • Grass-fed ground beef has become very easy to find in places like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods
  • For fruits and vegetables, make sure that you are eating a wide variety of colors
  • Varying spices is a great way to mix up the taste of the food you eat, while keeping the actual content similar and healthy
  • Good fats actually help you lose fat when you eat them
  • Avoid using herb mixes, as they tend to have large amounts of sodium. Try to use the individual spice, whole if you can
  • Be very careful of fruit juices, even if they are fresh squeezed. It usually just ends up being far too much fruit in one cup
  • Be careful not to go too low on carbs if you do a lot of heavy training
  • Be experimental in your diets. Don’t be religious about anything, but trying it all out, and see what works best for your body makeup
  • Be creative about finding the healthy options at the places you and your friends like the eat

What happens when one of the world’s most infamous playboys, known everywhere for his rambunctious lifestyle and lack of boundaries, decides it’s time to settle down? When he starts to take a deeper look at his life, and some of the possible reasons behind his wild behavior, and if there might be more to life than sleeping around and getting hammered every night?

Tucker Max is a bestselling author and self-proclaimed “raging dick-head.” He’s become famous for his reckless and crazy lifestyle. This episode is a throwback to an interview I did with Tucker two years ago, when he was just starting to settle down, and to move into a calmer time of his life.

We talk about a lot of the reasons behind Tucker’s own time of reckless living, and some of the ways in which it can be ok, and some of the reasons it can be very harmful and destructive. In addition, there are a lot of really specific tidbits for people who want to meet more women, or people in general, to find better relationships. For example, if you want to meet more women, simply list out the things you’re interested in. Of those, throw out any that women in general are not interested in, and then find ways to connect and get involved with groups centering around those remaining things. You will not be able to help but meet women.

This one is a riot, but also full of useful information at the same time. Tucker has been through a lot, and developed valuable insight into the psychology of party culture, where it’s right and wrong, and how to understand how it should fit into your own life specifically. Enjoy!

“When you decide to take full responsibility for everything in your life, you’ve made the leap from child to adult.” - Tucker Max

(click to tweet)

Notes on the Show:

  • When you have everything you want externally, and you’re still not happy, you need to start asking questions about what’s going on internally
  • When you decide to take full responsibility for everything in your life, you’ve made the leap from child to adult
  • When something is wrong with someone’s life, most people look externally for a reason, but it’s often either internal, or sometimes a combination of both. But, regardless of any external or internal problems, you are responsible for your own life
  • Often (not always), when a guy is hooking up with a ton of women, he has unresolved issues in his life, and unresolved feelings toward important women in his life
  • Other times, it’s an attachment issue
  • Unconscious psychological defenses are often too strong for someone to be able to tell you what is wrong, and for you to be able to accept it
  • If you want to meet a specific kind of woman, or person in general, you need to think carefully about where they are and what they do, what you like of those things, and then go to groups centered around those things
  • The internet is full of productivity blogs, etc, but a lot of people who spend a lot of time reading those are using them as guilt reduction for not actually getting things done
  • If you’re a man, you’re already a real man! There aren’t any specific things you need to do or not do to be a “real man,” because there are counterexamples for all of them
  • Instead of "What is a real man?" the better question is “what kind of man do you want to be?”

“Most people who want change, want painless change. But it just doesn’t work like that.” - Tucker Max

Are you interested in learning about one of the most powerful tools, that the greatest minds throughout history have used? One of the best ways to ensure that you’re getting where you want to be going, that you’re taking progressive steps to accomplish your goals, and that your focus is in the right place? I’m not talking about some new technological breakthrough or expensive service, this episode is all about journaling.

People tend to find new, different things exciting. Humans get a dopamine rush when they learn about something new and different, and are able to picture the ways in which this new thing could help them in the future. And yet something as simple and old-fashioned as journaling is routinely overlooked and ignored. It may not be flashy, but it gets results.

Simply the act of writing something down is not only going to give you a much more full understanding of the subject you are writing about, it will also make you far more likely to actually implement it. There is something incredible about the act of writing, especially goals, and it causes humans to operate in ways that facilitates the accomplishment of those goals.

This episode is all about journaling, the oldest and one of the most powerful tools of self development available. Learn how journaling can help you, best practices to help you get the most out of it, where you can fit it into your daily life, as well as much more, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

"Saying that you don’t have the time to journal is like being on a road-trip and saying you don’t have time to get gas." - Clark Danger

Notes on the Show:

  • Journalling is a tool that the greatest minds of history have used
  • Men can be resistant to the idea of journaling, because it is considered passive. But journaling is in fact active, not passive
  • Over time, a journal becomes a “success log” that you can go back to and review
  • Your own notes, whether about books or “ah ha” moments, will resonate much deeper with you than something somebody else wrote
  • One of the best ways to learn something in a way that will really stick is to talk about it, and teach it if you have the opportunity
  • Try to keep in mind the amount of time you have left, so that you don’t waste it
  • Saying that you don’t have the time to do things like journaling is like being on a road-trip and saying you don’t have time to get gas
  • Save yourself first. Prioritize your health and wellbeing, so that you can take care of others

“Monitoring how you spend your time is one of the most important decisions you make.” - Daniel Francis

(click to tweet)

Are you an effective human being? Do you get stuff done, or do you procrastinate? Do you focus on what you need to do to achieve your goals, or are you stopped in your tracks by every distraction, every phone notification and email? Do you live your life in a way that will cause your look back on your life, from your deathbed, and be proud of what you accomplished? Are you an elite person?

Regardless of where you stand on the road to becoming an elite human being, Daniel Francis is here to help you learn how to achieve the next level. This interview is packed with practical, step-by-step methods to get more out of your time on earth. Daniel is a master at clarifying the steps and the processes that need to be put in place for you to be truly satisfied with your output, not wasting time on frivolous and less worthwhile activities, and instead being ruthlessly dedicated to those things that will bring you true, lasting and fulfilling happiness.

Throughout, Daniel has a really visceral take on achieving lasting happiness in a life, from his detailed attention to his physical senses, to taking “cave time” for big decisions, to mastering his mornings and nurturing his evenings. His habit of turning his phone completely off, not just silencing it, shows his dedication to being truly present, and to ruthlessly accomplishing his goals.

Wherever you stand on the spectrum of a life truly optimized for happiness, fulfillment and achievement, you’ll get a lot out of this episode. If you’re looking for practical steps to build a better life on several different levels, you’ve come to the right place. So please join me on this journey of exploring the processes we can put in place to take our lives from average to awesome, with Daniel Francis, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

Notes on the Show:

  • When you get your communication with yourself sorted out, you start to communicate more effectively with the world around you as well

  • You can’t wait for things to happen to you. You must go out and make them happen

  • You have to be connected with your emotions to know what your calling and passion is. You have to connect with your senses and emotions

  • Use your senses more regularly. Focus on them

  • Take time to appreciate and be thankful for the world around you

  • Find people who are doing something similar to what you want to be doing, and then model them, and their behaviors

  • Look at the things that you feel obligated by, and ask yourself if it is all really necessary. Unnecessary obligations will trap you and keep you from going out and doing what you really want to do

  • Take “Cave Time,” where you go into isolation and ask yourself simple questions to help you gain clarity on life direction and decisions

  • Look for experiences that will bring you longer-term joy and increased happiness, rather than short spikes of pleasure

  • Be the master of your mornings. Consider not turning your phone on until later in the day

  • Use the nighttime, while you are sleeping, to program your subconscious. You can do this by focusing on important things right before going to sleep

  • Notifications, unanswered messages, etc, on your phone put a tremendous pull on your mind. If you can turn the phone all the way off at times, so that you’re not even getting those notifications, it will free your mind up

Daniel Francis’ Death-Bed Clarification Exercise:

Imagine yourself on your deathbed, and ask yourself two questions:

  1. What would I be pissed at myself for not doing in my lifetime?

  2. What would need to happen for me to get to this point, on my deathbed, and be ecstatic, fulfilled with peace, and ready to pass on

“Look at how your identity, who you’ve convinced yourself that you are, may have trapped you, and where you should step away from it.” - Daniel Francis

Do you have a method in place to make sure that you accomplish everything that you want to get done? Is there a reliable system to guarantee that you are accomplishing what you set out to, thereby making progress on the big goals in your life? Or do you find that you get stuck on meaningless activities, on a human hamster-wheel, constantly working but rarely making progress?

Michael Sandler knows a thing or two about getting things done. He’s the host of one of the top ranked self-help podcasts in iTunes, Inspire Nation, has completed a 5,000 mile, 40 day, solo, unsupported bike ride across the country, was a successful businessman, became a leading barefoot running coach, and so much more. He’s mastered the ability to see a goal through to fulfillment, and he’s paid careful attention along the way to the things that have allowed him to see such success.

This episode of The James Swanwick Show is all about how to put processes into place that, over time, allow you to accomplish incredible things. Michael talks about techniques to skip intermediate steps on the way to success, essentially jumping to the top rung of the ladder. We get into Michael’s 5-step method to accelerate success, how to build tasks into a brainless system that help get them done without you even thinking about it, and how looking at time as blocks and putting the most important thing you have to do into the very next available block can help you be productive even through an unpredictable schedule.

But one of the most poignant moments of the show comes when Michael makes the statement that “fear has never killed anyone. What kills you is knowing that you didn’t go for it.” And you can see that Michael truly lives his life this way. Being afraid is not a problem. The problem is in allowing fear to hold you back from really going for what you want to accomplish in this life. Don’t be someone who looks back on their life with regret about the things that they didn’t even attempt to accomplish. Give it a shot! Take the initial first steps, and use Michael’s 5-step method to make progress on your dreams.

So listen up and pay attention to this episode, in order to learn how to accomplish more faster, to not get burnt out, to work harder and smarter than everyone, and to ultimately accomplish your goals and live the life that you want on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

“Don’t climb the ladder, jump to the top rung.” - Michael Sandler

(click to tweet)

Notes on the Show:

  • You don’t always have to start from the bottom of something. Look at what the people at the top are doing, and emulate them to skip intermediate steps

  • When we truly believe that we can be the best, we will not only practice, but we will visualize. This process of believing and visualize is extremely powerful in accomplishing goals

  • Be fearless in taking steps toward your goal. They don’t have to be big steps, but they need to be headed the right direction

  • Take a small step toward what you have to do (something like putting it in your calendar) to make sure that it actually happens

  • Taking action will often help you to adjust your vision for where you want to go and how you want to get there

  • When there is an obstacle in front of you, before you try to overcome it, take a second and try to understand why it’s there and if it means you should course-correct

  • You must be aligned personally with the work you are doing. Otherwise, you will get burned out on it

  • Build the things that you must get done into a brainless system

  • Look at your time as blocks of time. Then make a commitment to grab the first block that becomes available to get the stuff that you have to do done

5 Ways to Accelerate Your Success

  1. Write it down. Don’t underestimate the power of journaling as if it has already happened. Burn this visualization into your brain, including all the details, with a lot of emotion

  2. Initiate. Get started!

  3. Take small baby steps at the beginning, which eventually start to turn into larger steps

  4. Have a plan. Know where you want to go. Have a goal in mind, and adjust your sails as you go

  5. Work harder and smarter than anyone else. Put in the time and effort.

“You are your own walking billboard. If you want to make a good impression, take care of your appearance.” - Andy Hnilo

(click to tweet)

Do you take care of your skin? Do you exfoliate on a regular basis? Do you use a good, nutrient dense mask? Do you even know what any of this means? Maybe you think that skin care is for women and ‘girly’ men, and that you’re too tough and badass to use any of that. If that’s you, pay attention to this episode of the James Swanwick Show, because our guest today, Andy Hnilo is here to change your mind.

Women understand that the way you feel about yourself and how you look affects your performance and how your personality comes across to others in dramatic ways. While this fact is often lost on men, the truth is that when your skin is vibrant with life you not only look better, but you feel and perform better. You’re at your optimal best, and that state of performance and vibrance is worth striving to attain.

But if you’re convinced about skin care already, don’t go to the drug store and start grabbing the first skin care products you find! Throughout this episode, Andy Hnilo will walk you through the potholes of finding a healthy, natural product to put on your skin. One that will not be leaking chemicals and synthetic materials into your bloodstream through your skin, but that will bring you all the benefits of all-natural, earthy, healthy ingredients.

So try it! After you listen to this episode, pick up some of Andy’s Alitura skin care products, and give it a shot, especially if you never have before! You may just find your mind clearing, your vibrancy returning, and even your perspective on life improving as you feel better about yourself every day!

“When you put things on our skin, it’s escorted into our bloodstream even faster than if you eat it. Don’t put things on your skin you wouldn’t eat.” - Andy Hnilo

Notes on the Show:

  • You’re your own biggest billboard. Make a good visible impression

  • Your appearance, and how you feel about yourself, can have an effect in the way you act, and how good the impression you make on others is

  • Exfoliate, nourish, and moisturize

  • Exfoliate: Acure Facial Scrub

  • Nourish: Use a good, nutrient dense mask: Alitura Clay Mask

  • Moisturizer: The Alitura Moisturizer

  • When products start getting into 20-30 ingredients, the likelihood of synthetic materials being part of it goes up

“Relationships are at the core of everything you want in life.”– Keith Ferrazzi

Relationships are at the core of everything you want in the life. Regardless of what your goals in life are, there are people in your life who will be instrumental in helping you achieve those goals. So how do you connect with those people? Who do you continually meet new people, and continue to deepen already existing relationships? In this interview, James gets to the 10 most important tips to keep in mind as you work on building your network. So sit up and take notes, because embracing these ten points will change the course of your future. Get ready to learn and implement!

Keith Ferrazzi’s Top 10 Tips for Connecting with People

  1. Always ask: “How can I help?”

  2. Always ask “Who?” – Who are the most important people to your life-success in the coming year

  3. Do your homework: Research and know the person before you reach out to them

  4. Never look back and say, “What if.” Never say “Woulda, coulda, shoulda.” Step up do the thing that scares you

  5. Always be working on improving one hard skill and one soft skill

  6. Build your own faculty for learning. Find out who the people are that can teach you those skill that you are constantly working on

  7. Find people who are your lifeline. Must include these four characteristics: Intimacy, candidacy, candor, accountability

  8. Embrace candor in your life. Make it safe for people to give you feedback, and also for you to give feedback by wrapping your feedback in honesty, understanding, and compassion

  9. Spend time and effort building your personal brand

  10. Making serving a habit in your life

“If you’re doing the things you want to do, people will hone in on that energy, and you’ll attract the right relationships into your life.” - Dr. Michael Friedman

(click to tweet)

Are you the sort of person who is constantly looking to better yourself? The kind of person with boundless energy for improvement, who wants and plans to do really big things in the world? Will you stop at nothing to accomplish your goals? And one last question: Do you really think that spending the weekend hungover is helping you get there?

Today’s guest on the James Swanwick show is Dr. Michael Friedman. Dr. Friedman is a clinical psychologist, and today’s show is all about how that drinking habit of yours, which may be no major problem, might not be helping you in any way, and may in fact be hampering your success in more significant ways than you realize.

One of the most powerful tools that Dr. Friedman recommends is what he calls “motivational interviewing.” This process consists of laying out, in a very honest fashion, the pros and cons of drinking. And, as Dr. Friedman points out, it is essential that the pros be adequately represented - as there are in fact pros to drinking! Things like being less inhibited, feeling more accepted by groups, and other aspects, should be considered real and significant pros! But then reposition and look with equal honest at the cons, because when the cons of drinking are approaching with this level of honesty, most will find that alcohol is indeed a net loss for them in their life.

This episode is all about the importance of taking a careful inventory of yourself and your relationship with alcohol. Ask yourself why you’re drinking, and choosing to get drunk. For most people, the answer is that they want to be more sociable, and maybe even find a mate. But consider the absurdness of this plan! To think that you will be able to attract and cultivate better relationships, whether romantic or platonic, in a state of drunken stupor is ludicrous!

So prepare to be enlightened about alcohol in society! Dr. Michael Friedman will help you understand when it does and does not make sense for you specifically, and how you can really start to take control of this area of your life. All of this, of course, leading you to a better, healthier and happier life, on this episode of the James Swanwick Show!

“One of the dangerous things about moderate drinking is that you can end up being dependent on it in a very subtle way.” Dr. Michael Friedman

Notes on the Show

  • Alcohol might not be a major evil force in your life. But is it helping you in any way?
  • Motivational interviewing is the process of asking yourself honestly: What are the pros and cons of drinking?
  • When doing the motivational interview, don’t hold back about the pros - because there are pros!
  • But also be honest about the cons
  • Ask yourself: How much drinking should you do to get all the pros, while limiting the cons?
  • That number (number of drinks), which may be zero, is what you should shoot for
  • Calculate the cost of drinking, including more than alcohol, such as taxi’s, binge eating, etc…
  • Experiment on yourself, and document the results, to really understand what is working
  • Ask yourself: What is your purpose in going out? Then ask yourself if alcohol is truly helping you accomplish that purpose
  • If you’re spending time around people who are not supportive of you trying to be your best self and continually improve, maybe it’s time to get around other people
  • Moderate drinking can be harmful in a sneaky way: When you use alcohol as a crutch to help you relax or be social, over time you can’t accomplish it without alcohol, and then you’re dependent
  • Choose to spend your time with people who are like what you want to become

Why should you live in the now? Do you find yourself looking to the future for happiness? Hello from Bondi Beach, as I’m back in Australia for the holidays. And I’ve recently been listening to the book “The Power of Now,” by spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle. He brings up the topic that we are always second-guessing ourselves with obsessive thoughts. Furthermore, in today’s world we live in this perpetual mode of thoughts, bouncing between positivity to negativity. Eckhart powerfully states in his book, “Pleasure come form the external and joy comes form the internal.” How does this statement resonate with you? Can you go back to a certain point in time, where you created a sense of joy and happiness internally? Enjoy the show. How can you improve your sleep quality? How do you fall asleep quicker at night?  Deep sleep is not just another term for sleeping well; it's a scientifically measurable state that's required for survival. Though all too often, our fast-paced modern life interferes with obtaining deep sleep.  Today we are going to dive deep into the world of sleep as Dr. Wei-Shin Lai joins us on the show. She is a family physician and founder of Acoustic Sheep, which make pajama like headphones for sleeping.  Dr. Wei-Shin Lai spent numerous years taking phone calls at 3am as a family doctor, but found it difficult to get back to sleep. Her husband suggested she listen to relaxing music to fall back into sleep – but there were no headphones on the market comfortable enough to sleep in. I’m here at the Bulletproof Conference in Pasadena, where I’ll be speaking on the importance of reducing or quitting alcohol. And I’ve just had a body spec test, and discovered my overall body fat composition. The scan broke down fat tissue, lean tissue, and bone, which makes up my total mass. They say the elite athletes always test between 10-15%, depending on their particular sport. Listen in and find out where I stand, and the importance of getting yourself tested.  Let me know what you think on Instagram and twitter @jamesswanwick and www.jamesswanwick.com

Today we are talking about spirituality.  In today’s society spirituality can have many different meanings. It could be attending ones church on Sunday’s, having a personal yoga practice, or even studying astrology. But what is spirituality when we boil it all down, and how can it help us in our everyday lives? Todd Savvas is joining us on the show today, and he’s going to teach us how spirituality can help with our relationships, health, stress levels, and overall wellbeing. Many guys tend to equate yoga as a more feminine practice, and would rather be pumping iron in the gym or competing in CrossFit.  Joining us on the show today is, Dean Pohlman, the creator and CEO of Man Flow Yoga. Dean is going to help reveal the masculine side of yoga, uncover the many hidden benefits, and help men break through the mental barriers of yoga.  His original intention was to create a practice for men, athletes, and people who wanted an effective full body workout…without having to change their lifestyle, find their chi, or get overly spiritual.  Enjoy the show! I’m running a half marathon here in Oslo, and I’ve done zero training for it. Yesterday I was walking through the city and checking out the sights, when I saw there was a sign up for a marathon and half marathon. And truthfully I haven’t run for more than an hour in the past two years, but I knew I wanted to run it. I’m 40 years old, and the fact I’m able to run a half marathon on a moments notice is good news… But it’s been a culmination of my exercise regimen for the past 5 years, my lifestyle/nutrition habits, and that I no longer drink alcohol. All those play a huge part in my overall fitness level, and allow me to be spontaneous. What can you say yes to today? Is your current lifestyle preparing you for the things you want to accomplish? Is a lunchtime drink OK? I’m in Denmark Copenhagen, and it’s interesting to see how many people like to have lunchtime beers. I’m just walking alongside the water front here in Nyhavn, and people sitting at the cafes and shops either have a pint of beer or a glass of wine on their table. I actually remember when I was living in London, and would go out to lunch with my co-workers…. We would have a pint of beer at lunch on occasion, but would almost always be falling asleep at work later.  Why do we do it? Numerous studies have shown the delirious effects that alcohol has on work performance. But people still choose otherwise. Enjoy the show. Do you feel weighed down by the amount of things in your life? Is your mind racing  to keep up with your busy schedule? Well, today is all about how to remove the clutter from your brain and your physical space. We’ve all got clutter floating around…whether it’s worrying about business projects, what to cook for dinner, or the resent date you went on. And then there’s the physical clutter, such as a messy room, disorder in the kitchen, and files scattered all over the desk. Interestingly some say the clutter in ones one house/personal space directly mirrors the clutter and chaos going on internally. So today I’m happy to welcome Miriam Ortiz y Pino onto the show. She is a certified professional organizer, and has been helping people de-clutter their overwhelming lives for over a decade. Wake up! Do you have big plans for life, but never seem to put in the effort to make them happen? Here’s the thing…we all want to lose weight, make more money, meet the right woman or man, and turn that great idea into a business. But for some reason, no matter how deeply you want a better life, history always repeats itself. Joining me today is my good friend Mark Dhamma, who’s going to teach us how to make the shift from wanting a better life, to fully taking action and responsibility. Mark is a positive psychologist, celebrity personal trainer, and peak performance coach here in Los Angeles. In our conversation Mark reveals his big wake up moment in life, when his father suddenly passed when he was 21 years old. At the time he was not working in a field he loved, and was actually dealing drugs to make extra cash. But something shifted for him in that moment… He began to realize that death can come at any moment, and it’s only a matter of time before we’re gone. Unfortunately many people don’t realize how precious life is until something comes along and shakes their world. But is doesn’t have to be that way. Listen in and enjoy the show. How do you go from single to a thriving relationship? If you’re in a relationship, how can you be the best lover you can be? To help teach us today I’ve brought in a good friend of mine, Andrew Ferebee. He is the host of the top ranked podcast “knowledge for men” and author of the new book “The dating Playbook for Men.” But it wasn’t always the good life for Andrew…He used to work a 9 to 5 corporate job, play by the rules, and put his dreams behind the needs of others. But he took the first step, by acknowledging his shortcomings and taking responsibility for his life. And soon after, everything began to change. Enjoy the show! Do you ever dream of leaving the 9 to 5 and traveling the world? Today we are talking all about the art of travel and giving back. Now I like to consider myself a fairly well traveled person, having been to over 40 countries...but I’m not much of a traveler compared to our guest today. I’m happy to welcome Leon Logotheits, who’s a British born author, TV host, global adventurer, and traveler to over 90 counties.  But life wasn’t always so fulfilling for Leon.  He used to be a broker in the city of London where he felt uninspired and chronically depressed. But he decided to give it all up for a life on the road. This radical life change was inspired by the inspirational movie The Motorcycle Diaries. The days of living and working behind his ‘slab of wood’ were truly over. Enjoy the show! Let me know what you think on twitter and instagram @jamesswanwick and www.jamesswanwick.com

Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. How often to you put yourself in uncomfortable situations throughout the week? I’m not talking about risky circumstances that could potentially harm you, but the kind that allow for personal growth and discovery.  Today I’m joining you from Runyon Canyon, in Los Angeles, where I’ve just finished up some cardio training. And it’s absolutely beautiful atop the hill here, as the sun is setting, and people are walking their dogs and smiling to one another.  How can I create more amazing experiences? In reality the only way to    push yourself, go on exciting adventures, and meet fascinating people is by breaking through your comfort zone. And yes, it’s going to be uncomfortable, but it’s necessary to feel and internalize the discomfort in order to progress along the journey. So when was the last time you took an uncomfortable leap and expanded your horizon? Enjoy the show! Let me know what you think on instagram and twitter @jamesswanwick and www.jamesswanwick.com

Some of the all time greats such as Michael Jordan, Warren Buffett, and Sir Richard Branson all had mentors throughout their careers. But when is the right time to get a coach again? Joining us on the show today is the CEO of coach.me, Tony Stubblebine. Why do we gravitate towards playing small in life? What is it that stops us from playing life all out? Today I’m joining you from Forth Worth Texas, as I’m getting ready to fly back to Los Angeles. In reality we are all guilty of not playing big enough, and we’re all guilty of playing too small. But by doing this we can’t know our limitations, and how far we can really climb. In truth, I’ve had some big realizations the past few days, while here at the Podcast Movement Conference…and I’m guilty of playing it too safe. Enjoy the show! Have you ever created a vision board? If so, you might not be doing it right.  Today I’m talking with Eli Wilhide, who’s going to explain all about the vision board and why it’s not working for you.  If you haven’t made a vision board, it’s basically a tool used to help clarify and maintain focus on a specific goal. It’s any sort of board, on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, or have in your life. Eli believes people get too focused on the material objects, and forget about their ultimate goal of creating products that serve a unique purpose in life. So when you’re making your next visions board, ask yourself what do you want to create and who do you want to serve? Enjoy the show! What should I do for my 40th birthday? It’s coming just around the corner, on September 7th.  I’ve actually been giving this a lot of thought, and I’ve recently convinced myself that I’m not going to do anything at all.  It doesn’t need to be a big celebration of sorts, maybe a dinner with a few friends.  But then again I have this feeling it would be fun to throw a nice party. What do you think? Let me know on twitter and instagram @jamesswanwick and www.jamesswanwick.com
